Anyone got any experience with this one?  They've recently launched English-language editions and started ramping up their presence in the wargaming groups on Facebook.

A Mariupol game sounds interesting, although it hits a bit close to home...

Just got this one in so first impressions, etc.

First, the included game...it's sort of a generic naval system that is hard to decipher. The real difficulty is the counters. Note that they don't provide die cut counters but heavy glossy counter sheets. This is fine except I haven't found a manifest yet and there are many sheets of counters, almost all containing some part of the naval game. Also, they use perfect binding so the rules are inside the magazine (prefer rules that I can remove). I have to take time and look at his more closely.

The rest of the material is add-ons to their existing game products.

I look at items I buy two ways and maybe this will be helpful to others. First, the initial intent of the product. In other words did you get a good game (in this case). That remains to be seen.

I bought this issue based on the fact that it is their first English language issue and that it had maps. Yes plural. Maps. 4 total. One for the game included (a simple small ocean hex map with some small islands as its only features that measures 14x19) and three more for the add-ons.

The Mariupol map is 19x25 and very well made as are the other maps. The Crecy map is 18.5x25 and the Mokra map is 9x18.5 (Yes, odd sizes I know).

I'm a kit-basher when it comes to games. I will pick up something just for the parts to use when I am working on a design or to play out something I don't have a ready-made system for.

This magazine cost me $15 and I feel like it was worth it just for the maps (with blank hex maps costing $4-$8 each these days).

I will post more as I dig into it, but I would say for a straight forward gamer this ranks (so far) about a 5/10. As for parts, there are maps and counters galore and would deserve an 8/10 just on those points alone (the non-standard size maps cost it a point).

Note: If you are a map fan like myself you might want to check out their back issues, many of which come with multiple maps http://www.taktykaistrategia.pl/?topic=archiwum

Some have English rules included as well.
"I must not fear.
    Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
    I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain."  - Frank Herbert

Note that the Mariupol on the cover is an add-on for their Battle of the XXI Century system...it is NOT the included game.

Videos on the system:

Yeah, that War of Ships in the upper left hand corner of the cover is the game. I was bummed too :(

Will probably use the rules from Millennium Wars (or something similar) to run some hand made scenarios on the Mariupol map.

EDIT: Just wanted to clarify that I knew what the included game was before I purchased and was still ok with it.

Also noticed that most of the counter sheets are meant to be folded or cut in two and back mounted. That will make a decent counter when completed.

I'm holding you responsible. 18 months ago I had some board games in a chest in the basement that I hadn't looked at in years. Now, I have shelves full and I'm contemplating moving shelves of paperbacks from the library room to the basement so I can turn the whole room into a gaming room.

Fortunately, I stopped myself in time on this to read the comments from others. I'll go get La Retour instead...
