Damn scientists....It's 2015.  Where's my hover-car?!

I've seen you guys drive on normal roads.  No way in hell I want y'all in the air over my house.

That's a silly name.  I would have called it Doug.

Orcus?

We have a planet named after the king of the undead?!?

That.

Is.

So.

COOL!

That's a silly name.  I would have called it Doug.

They'll eventually run out of netherworld deity names.  So "Doug" and "Flying Spaghetti Monster" will happen at some point.   O0

Are they hover cars?  No? Then GTFO.

Yes, they hover very effectively. That's their primary job in a way, and a big reason why they have a hard speed limit beyond which they can't fly.

The hovering also for several reasons makes them more dangerous than airplanes. If power fails, they have almost no aerodynamics and will probably drop like a rock (or a thrown rock). Unless the operator tries one trick to catch the fall at the last moment, which still requires enough height to try the trick.

They're a damned nuisance, though also super-useful. Dad was a chief mechanic of these flying hovering cars back during the Vietnam War on a light support cruiser for a carrier group. He says pilots and mechanics like to joke about the things being tricked into flying by engineers. ;)

It would of course be nice to have better flying cars, but they still won't be much safer. Even if they come with a Mr. Fusion nuclear home generator on the back!  ^-^
