I've been doing a great job lately of not buying on release day!

Just like most game releases, seems like this one may have a few bugs....so likely not a bad strategy to hold off for a bit, even though of course I jumped in :)

My great internal struggle isn't over whether to buy it or not (I lost that battle long ago)...its more of which platform to get it on. I've narrowed it down to PC or PS4. I've heard that the PS4 version is superior to the XBone, and that the Xbone version has an annoying studdering problem at times.  Still, both console versions are capped at 30FPS.

The PC version, on the other hand, will not only perform better on the average, but it will have access to mods, which I suspect will be significant, and will be easier to update and acquire DLC. The only downside to the PC is that I really cannot afford to have another 30 GB+ game on my hard drive.  At this point, I would have to delete something like Shadow of Morodor in order to comfortably fit it...

One other factor is that eventually, there will be a "Game of the Year" edition with all the DLC and this will at some point be on sale and extremely cheap on the PC, whereas the price will never really get too low on the console versions. If I get the console version now, I can always pick up the PC version later when its complete and dirt cheap.  Anyway, I'm so torn.

This has occurred to me, believe it or not, but I have so much spaghetti in my tower and the power supply is already stretched pretty thin, so I'm nervous about adding another drive.

Mod potential alone is reason to go PC, in my view. And not even for the elaborate cool mods that will undoubtedly come, but for basic tweaks, like "SkyUI" which de-console-ized Skyrim for PC users and made everything much, much better...

But yeah, HD space -- not sure when "30 GB plus" started becoming the standard for AAA titles... I uninstalled NBA 2K15 after buying it on sale when I realized after the fact that it took up 50 GB.... No Way.

^Grand Theft Auto V is a whopping 65GB!!!! Its my biggest hard drive killer.

I would buy the PC version of the game.  The mods and the additional add-ons they sell always make the PC version better in the longer run.

Buy it upon release?  That is a totally different issue (although I pre-ordered it and it is being shipped now).  I'm sure if you wait 18 months there will be additional download content, mods, and a 50% price reduction.

I'll probably post a few initial impressions and then write an actual review after I have played it for 40 hours or so.  Since my heart got fixed I am back to sleeping 8 hours a day instead of 10.5+ hours a day.

Of note, the reviewer tried both the PS4 and PC versions and preferred the PC:  "I was able to run the Windows version on a mix of "medium" and "high" settings across the board—apparently crisper than my PS4 version—and enjoy a nearly solid 60 frames-per-second refresh.  The PS4 version, on the other hand, struggled to maintain a smooth 30 FPS refresh, often chugging in sequences that didn't appear to have any particularly strenuous content."

IIRC from the E3 press announcement mods will be available for PS4 and X-Box one. I'm still going PC. Even if they are supporting mods on consoles I don't see them being able to run the script extender which most UI and overhaul mods are bound to use in the future.

Why do reviewers complain about wanting the main quest line rammed down their throats in an Open World RPG?   ::)

Sounds like they expect it to have KOTOR levels of story & personalities, but that was not an open world game.  Perhaps they should stick to the non-open ones then?

Obviously I've not played Fallout 4 yet but the pair of reviews I checked out, which both still proclaim it as being quite enjoyable, are complaining about none of these Bethesda games dragging them by the nose directly through a thick plot line.  WTF?  Are they having trouble with the Open World concept, or just wishing it was a canned RPG dragging them mindlessly down one path?  I see references like "open-world slog" and shake my head.

Leave our Open World RPGs alone!
