Thanks guys.  I was playing vanilla DH.  However, I downloaded the latest release of GC last night and strated a new game as Italy today.  Haven't gotten too far into it.  Something I've never seen or thought possible, the Swiss have joined the CP early in the war.  It's the beginning of '15 and I've just joined the CP.

LOL...OK, I lost myself in this threads many acronyms...which game is GC?  Thanks.

JasonPratt

GC = "Grand Campaign", the new megamod from the author of the mod called "Arms, Armistice, and Revolution" or "AAR", which is itself a mod for an official Hearts of Iron 2 alternate game called Darkest Hour (which was itself originally a huge mod for HOI2, and then picked up by Paradox to be sold as a separate game.)

When I was talking about the AAR mod earlier, I meant the Grand Campaign or GC mod (because that name is super-generic compared to "AAR").

Vanilla DH would refer to one of the three normal unmodded modes of DH, probably in this case DHFull (since that's the only one which has a World War 1 campaign.)

You might give it a try again after restarting the the game.  I've found that it sometimes helps to save and quit the game from time to time just to keep things running right.

I'm sorry, I got so caught up in other replies I forgot this one.

I had already been quitting and restarting the game (including with warm and cold reboots of the whole system) trying to get past a diplomacy calculation freeze (also I tried turning off the option that gives the AI maximum opportunity to think), and reloaded from an earlier save to get past that -- then running into this hangup. I just can't deal with the game being this unstable, so I uninstalled it already.

I'll go back eventually and try to play "Gold" instead of "Centennial". I don't recall it having such problems.

Same for me. I have Centennial too and it does run better than the Gold version.  But at least with the Gold version, I've never had an issue with it like you just did or a few other people have had. So I stay with the Gold version.

What Windows version are you guys running with Centennial?  I've had more problems running Centennial in Win 10 than I ever did in Win 8.1.  Even changing the compatibility settings doesn't help.

Just poked around for a few minutes with Making History: The Great War...there's a lot more meat to it now than the last time I checked in, including a campaign that starts in 1912 and finally a tutorial.

Windows 7 64-bit.

I personally haven't had an issue with Centennial yet except that the game freezes loading if I use the  "Load all map at start" option. Other than that, it appears to work fine on my computer. But I just tend to play the Gold version more.

The Grand Campaign isn't too bad, but too many events seem to make too many assumptions.  I'm playing as Italy, and was made an offer for some land if I joined the CP, which I did.  But at one point, I was told that the King changed the Head of Government because the was against Austria-Hungry wasn't going great.  Um, I'm allied with them, why would I change the HoG then.

I'm into the 20's and starting to see events that assume that the CP lost the war.  In fact, France doesn't exist.  But there were Versailles Treat events.

Finally, I see at least 1 event for Australia every game week.  Really, Australia is going to have that many event.  Just seems goofy.

Huh, I haven't seen events for Australia, and I'm well into the 20s. Maybe that's in an updated build?

I did notice that even though I prevented WW1 from ever breaking out, Germany somehow triggered the Versailles treaty, perhaps because they were at war with someone or another in the German colonies. Then German civil war broke out, and things happened that I haven't been able to see clearly due to a lack of being allied with anyone else to reduce the FOW.
