XCOM 2 Reviewed at RPS

Saw a couple of posts that suggest after the game unlocks it could take 30-90 minutes to unpack...although someone with an SSD drive said about 5 minutes for them.  So I guess in the end, it just depends:)

And...unpacking. Sigh.  :-[ It's currently bouncing from 2 to 8 hours. Apparently I'll be loading this up tomorrow.

My unpack was hella slow, turned off Internet and paused AV software. Much faster now. Down to 5 minutes.

AFAIK about 25GB download for a 45GB footprint on the HDD
(...took about an hour, but i have got it installed on an external USB drive, so i created a bottleneck,
but didn't had planed to jump start a game at 1pm anyway, i only checked if it was installed correctly)

Mine is all set...but won't be able to play until tonight, no big deal.  Hopefully all the performance issues I have been reading about are limited to certain configurations and hopefully that configuration is something I don't have:)

It didn't take that long for it to unpack for me, but I didn't time it.  I just knew that it took less time than I expected given what I've been reading.

When I loaded it up it auto-selected "Low" graphics presets.  I figured I could at least run it on medium with AA off, which I tried.  During the transport animations I noticed a frame rate drop, and it must have been substantial since I never notice those things.

Played the first tutorial mission and halfway into the second when the game crashed on me.  I'm going to see if there are new drivers that might help, but I sure hope the game auto-saves.

I can also see I'm going have to revise my playstyle (which I already knew, but haven't made the adjustment yet).

Fortunately the new driver seems to have solved my performance issues, which allowed me to get my ass kicked in the second tutorial mission.  I need to get a better handle on setting up ambushes.

Tgb, what vid card are you running? I have an older rig and I get some heavy frame drop in some of the cut scene transitions. My biggest issue is that the game periodically kicks me to my desktop and I have to alt tab back into the game to keep playing. Never had the issue before.

The game itself is fun. No issue with timers or Sectiods. Did get my ranger hit once with a blown setup when a civ popped up around a corner and blew the concealment right out of the gate on the opening move.

If mine "unpacked," I didn't notice it.

The download finished around 11:30 last night, Pacific time.  I started the game up and it ran just fine.  I didn't actually begin playing because it was bedtime, and I am at work now, but I plan to tie in to it tonight.

Went through the tutorial and started a game. My only complaint so far is, only six custom faces??? Why can't we change more of the facial details?
