So, is this worth playing with the expansion? I really didn't care for Civ 5, even fully expanded.

A lot of reviews/gamer comments suggest that even if you like Civ5 you'll be disappointed.

Apparently it lacks much story/immersion given the uniqueness of the supposed space environment. I've not played it, so am not speaking from personal experience and I am just regurgitating what a lot of disappointed Civ players have said of it. I did think of buying it, but was put off by the negative feedback.

What do players here think who have actually played this game? Are the naysayers right or wrong?
The most shocking fact about war is that its victims and its instruments are individual human beings, and that these individual beings are condemned by the monstrous conventions of politics to murder or be murdered in quarrels not their own. Aldous Huxley

I love playing Civ V. I bought BE and played maybe 4 complete games of it and haven't gone back. Never bought the expansion as I ddnt like the first bit and nothing listed in the expansion showed much promise of improving my enjoyment.

Not sure what it is about the game but for me it lacked any "life".

That's pretty much the vibe I was getting from other people, that although they loved Civ5, BE was a let down giving the opportunity to make it unique to the space environment. I got the impression that it was too much of a Civ5 clone without being distinctive enough in its own right.

It was just an "ok" game. Nothing great but not bad either.
I sill prefer settings based in history than Sci Fi so I would still go for vanilla Civ 5

I love Civ 5, in fact it is the game I am playing right now.

I have never gotten into BE, but I must admit I didn't really give it a good chance.  I won't go so far as to recommend against it.

To be honest, I usually prefer historical settings too. That said there are quite a few Sci Fi games that I have really enjoyed. I have Civ5, but haven't really been too motivated to go for BE. If people were saying this is great, it's fresh and different, then I would have probably picked it up in the sales, but then there are so many great games out there ... and soooo little time to play them all! ::)

@Jomni

OT: BTW how is Yari to Teppu coming on? Any chance of a thread to tease?

Still in beta stage and I have yet to complete the planned Korean scenarios (the last bit of content yet to be completed).
Almost there. I would have done some teaser posts but maybe after I'm done with the scenarios.

I did not care for Sid Meier's Civilization: Beyond Earth. It got a Metascore of 81 from Metacritic, but the User Reviews break down was 73 Positive, 112 Mixed, and 144 Negative.

When I saw that the Humble Store was selling the Rising Tide expansion for $17.99 instead of the usual $29.99, I almost bought it thinking the expansion might improve the game enough to make it more to my liking. After watching the following YouTube video, I decided otherwise. I may buy it yet, but I am still undecided. :-\

Regardless of how good a PC game may be it will always have its detractors and no matter how bad a PC game may be it will always have its fans.
