It was better than Star Trek Beyond

Saw it with Bro and the nieces this afternoon. Thoroughly enjoyed it; will probably enjoy it better at home on Blu though. Not enough riffs from John Williams, but I understand the point to make the side stories a bit more distinctive. Bro was amazed that Peter Cushing was still alive -- and more amazed that he was not. Girls were sad that rocks fell, but still liked the movie a lot. Segues directly, and I mean directly, into original SW. Archaic computer graphics and shot retakes were a hoot. Death Star blasts quite epic, even if not making some sense (a starship should really out fly what was almost not outflown; and the miss of the second shot really doesn't make sense, and could have been explained with a quick couple of lines.)

That's because Williams didn't do the score.  At least that's what I thought I heard yesterday on the radio.

Yeah I read the same...the music is not John Williams.

It's noticeably not John Williams. I though the score was one of the weaker parts of the film.

I know it's nitpicking, but I also found the text descriptions for various worlds to be a distraction. It seemed very un-Star Wars.

Anyway, still a very good film with some nice nods to previous entries and other parts of the SW universe. The cast was excellent overall, the battles were some of the best of any of the films.

I'd rate it third in the entire series, behind Empire and the original film.
