Anyone plan on picking up BattleFleet Gothic: Armada?

I'm torn on this one. On the one hand, I *hate* (can't emphasize that enough) the entire Warhammer cosmos. On the other hand.... huge capital ships trading broadsides with eachother. Huge customizable ships. (And are they really any more ridiculous than some of the SOTS alien vessels that I'm more than content enough to play against?  Hmmm...)

I'm very tempted, but it probably won't happen until later this summer.

And there was also an update to Sovereignty: Crown of Kings...

Played some Sovereignty last night, with the new Beta version.  O0

Sinking ships is my aim via World of Warships and then being chained to my old ass laptop for the next two weeks and thus unable to sink said ships.

I played World Of Warships with a couple old forum buddies last night.  For about three hours.

We were on a murderous rampage for most of it.  Slumming it up in Tier 5 destroyers mostly (and one in the occasional cruiser).  Were regularly getting six or seven kills a match for our group.  Was on a roll the first couple hours, but bailed after getting overconfident and overly aggressive near the end.  :buck2:

Still waffling about which grand strategy single-player one I want to stick with.  I've been starting up campaigns in about five different titles.  :idiot2:

To break monotony, I will also be playing another game I picked up recently, Train Valley. This one surprised me because I didn't expect I'd like it. But I was so pleased with it that I purchased both it and its DLC after playing around with its free demo for awhile.
Thanks for the info. I'm downloading the demo now to give it a try.

Toonces I used to feel that M2TW was my high point with the TW series until Shogun 2. Then I thought that was my high point until Attila and then Age of Charlemagne. I actually enjoy managing the provinces in the new system and of course tweaking/modding the management systems.

What book are you reading, Toonces?

It's called, The Gettysburg Campaign: A Study in Command by Coddington.

http://www.amazon.com/Gettysburg-Campaign-Study-Command/dp/0684845695/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1461361596&sr=1-1&keywords=gettysburg+a+study+in+command

It focuses more on the command decisions of the various generals, why they did what they did and a critique of their decision making during the campaign.  It's pretty good.  Not a good first read on Gettysburg, but if you're read Sears then you should be able to follow it.

In honor of the Title of the Subject Thread and the departed Prince, I'll chime in here!  This weekend is probably a little Gems of War or Defender's Quest with my son before his bed time, and then after he goes to bed I'll be dusting off X-COM: Enemy Unknown.  I'd put that latter title down and never gone back to it a few years ago, but after cranking up the difficulty in a new campaign, I'm enjoying it much more!

Of course, that assumes I'm able to finish off Making a Murderer.  It's only got 10 episodes, but I've covered 7 of them since last Monday.  That is a crazy intense documentary.  Of course, after I finish it, I'll need to do some more research online to determine if it's accurate or not.  But dang, it sure makes me not want to commit any crimes in any small town in America...

Toonces

I was looking through my extensive library and decided to try a game I've owned for quite a while but have never really tried: Europa Universalis: Rome Vae Victus.

If you thought CK2 was hard, you know nothing, Jon Snow.  I don't think I have hardly a clue what's going on, although I'm slowly figuring it out.  I started a game at the beginning of the 1st Punic War and it has just been a bloodbath.  Somehow I put a disloyal commander in charge of my main body of troops and after a few years, just when I was making some progress against Carthage he revolted and I was suddenly fighting a war on two fronts: Carthage and the Roman Rebels.  This went on for quite a while, maybe 5 years of game time and 2 hours of real time?  Essentially my Roman faction had lost and I was waiting for the game to end when suddenly Rome was reunited?!  I start clicking around trying to figure out what happened and it appears the rebels won and established a dictatorship.  Interesting.  So now I'm still playing, but I have a totally new government.

I'm still wrapping my head around how the game works.  I'm used to CK2, which is a dynasty simulator, whereas EU is more of a country simulator, so who I am, exactly, within the game has been confusing.

Regardless, there is an awful lot going on, and the diplomacy both between nations and within the inner-Roman factions is crazy.  It's quite a ride.

Heh.  So there's a tutorial.  It's right there on the start menu.  Might have been a good idea to start with that I suppose...   ::)

I would really enjoy Attila, primarily due to all the good interface improvements and better iteration of their attempt at CK2-style faction politics, which wasn't very well done in Rome 2.

Yet I still fume about at least two design decisions they made for Attila that make no sense.  Other than being quick & clumsy band-aids to "balance" faction types, or force the player into using the same army building restriction they imposed for the AI due to make up for it's incompetence.  Shamefur Dispray!

There are mods to mitigate at least one of those things, of course.  But they affect multiple other facets of how the game plays, so creates other issues in doing so.  :-\

I'll just STFU and attempt a vanilla campaign again sometime, and make myself enjoy the rest.  Hopefully I can keep from raging when I'm restricted to only building the most advanced (and expensive) units, or gaining extra Imperium penalties (Diplomacy, Corruption, Etc) for simply researching new techs.

We were literally told, by a CA rep in the forum, that if we didn't want the extra Imp Penalties, then just don't do any research.  WTFF?!  :knuppel2:

I wouldn't bitch about Attila as much if the rest of the game was mediocre.  But they had many great changes & I still want to love it.  :tickedoff:

I'm torn on this one. On the one hand, I *hate* (can't emphasize that enough) the entire Warhammer cosmos.

My standing recommendation still stands after full release: if you can't stand 40K, you should stay away in proportion to how much you can't stand it. It's a very 40K game. There are plenty of other great games to play (and to support by buying), than to be gritting your teeth all the time in order to play another technically great game.

Big write up at RPS - possibly one o the best tactical RTS games out there

Been a frustrating weekend on the gaming front.

I reinstalled WoWS earlier last week. More I play it the more I remember why I stopped. I love the premise of the game but I really just don't have the temperament to keep dealing with constantly losing every match. Problem with online gaming is having to deal with other people, 99.9% of them being idiots. Until Friday night I had two wins outta 10-12 matches. About half of the losses were my team kills two enemy ships, and they steam roller us. Had a couple of good games Friday night in my new Penscola, but yesterday and a couple of matches this morning where back to the losing streak.

Played a couple of games of Twilight Struggle. Two as the US and one as the USSR. Gotten stomped by the AI on easy in turn 4-5 of all of them. Fun game but the mechanics are not really grabbing me.

CMANO and EUIV, with maybe some KSP or Elite are on my list for today. Sovereignty Crown of Kings was on the list, but after restarting my Let's Play series once just to have a new patch released the next day, I'm going to hold off to make sure no other bug fixes get released this week.
PanzersEast: Have to think to myself.... will I play the first one by the Winter Sale?  Probably not, then I should remove Dragonfall
PanzersEast: but that is thinking too logically.... and Steam Sales are about ignoring Logic

Yeah, that's probably sound advice. I love space battle porn as much as the next guy, but I probably couldn't stomach the Warhammer-ness of it all...

I'm okay with the Warhammer-ness.

It's the RTS clickery that makes me hesitate, along with the knowledge that content will probably be parceled out in multiple DLCs.  Still have such a backlog that I may as well wait until a package sale shows up later.   Oh, and I'll likely end up getting Stellaris and TW Warhammer in the coming month anyway.

Didn't have much time for playing  >:( and ended up starting a new Master of Orion IV game as the Darloks....
