Thanks Budd!

It turned out to be quite an install, instead of releasing just some bug fixes as we first thought we'd do. Also, there's a nice selection of mods now available, to provide options for the stock content.

Here's how boardgame setup looks at the moment, with Alan's Arab-Israeli Wars situation #24 in the test bed:

To do that, I installed the following mods, in this particular order:

  • First, the AIW situation pack. (This actually could be put at any stage)
  • Next, Black 2D Unit Profiles, to replace the colorful ones obviously
  • Then, the Ode To AIW Terrain (and Counters) mod, to replace the Black 2D Unit profiles for Israel, Egypt, Syria, and Jordan with one with NATO symbols for foot infantry
  • Finally, the Textured 2D Mod, overriding the AIW Terrain tiles for this new look.

So once you become familiar with what each of the mod replaces with, then you can play with them together and mix and match them per their install order, without having to actually create a new Mod with all your favorite settings.

Actually, if colors are not your thing, you can also add the NATO Symbols with Transparent Background to the mix. No conflict with any of the mods so far, and by hitting <Ctrl> + <i>, you can switch the view between the black unit profiles and the black outlined NATO symbols.  O0

Thanks for that! O0 I've just installed the dropbox file from your post on the first page of this thread. Has that now been superseded by the Matrix version?

I believe that link points to the final 1.02 Open Beta load, the one that was sent to M/S.

The official v1.02 is not out yet, once it is these Open Betas become obsolete and need to be deactivated before running the official installer.

And the 2D Texture mod will be a separate download, available from the link in the previous page now.

I've just downloaded the 2d mod (looks nice O0) - just extract to \mods then use the JSGME, right?

there was an extra folder level for me, there were 2 warhorse textured terrain folders. Take the one inside the other and put that in your CSME mod folder.

BTW, before I found out about the JSGME I took the beta and just dropped it into my game files, rather than put it in as a mod. ::) Have I borked my install? If I have then I guess I should uninstall, reinstall and update? Or is that unnecessary?

So you did n overwrite of the game files. I imagine when it gets released thats what will happen anyway. I think they want us to use JSME so we dont bork the files ;) in case something is wrong with the beta.

It will get easier to move the Mods around once the official 1.02 update is out, and the middle_east_102_cumulative mod (ie the Open Beta) is removed. It causes a lot of warnings of overlapping files, as long as it is there. Shouldn't be too long until that, let us hope!

So it's best if I uninstall, reinstall and reupdate?

It might be out Wednesday from a post at Matrix forums. If your using JSME you do have to deactivate the mods when updating. If it were me i'd reinstall and update when/if it comes out on Wednesday and then reinstall JSME and apply the mods you want to use just to be safe, of course when you apply the official update it will overwrite what it needs to and then you can apply/activate the mods you want from the mod folder and that might be just fine.
