Mordheim's more of a turn-based tactical combat game than an RPG.  As for Divinity or PoE, I don't know that I'd rank one over the other when it comes to being similar to Dragon Age.  They've both got pausable real-time combat, party management, deep storylines, and lots of character customization.

Thanks SDR & jamus34  i'm gonna go with Divinity, although i dont mind pausable real time i prefer turn based and also Pillars looks like a lot more reading than Divinity. Do prices change during this sale? last year didnt the prices just stay the same the whole sale? I'm strangely reluctant to pull the trigger on anything, i've added to my wishlist but not bought anything yet. I'm sure buying the first one will be like pulling my finger out of the dike.

I'm wondering if now is a good time to pull the trigger on CKII.  It looks like the base game with all of the expansions, along with the EUIV Converter, would be $55.17.  The expansions I have listed are;

Conclave
Horse Lords
Sword of Islam
Way of Life
Rajas of India
Sons of Abraham
The Old Gods
The Republic

Is the correct.  The countries that I'm most interested in playing as are England and Poland.  If I leave out any of the above, will it make much difference to the overall game play.

Budd - I dont think you'd go wrong with either game. Note that both games (Divinity and PoE) are pretty text intensive. You need to really read to get clues from what I know as i have not gone  that far into each game. Tactically divinity is better combat wise, while I think PoE builds a better world with more intriguing characters. I mean the first map after the intro you can be introduced to a fairly tough moral question if you choose.
Insert witty comment here.

I'm pretty sure you can (still) eliminate PRON if performance is an issue.  :P ::) It's by far the most ambitious game on the list.

Turns still take a long time. But it is one of the best computer games I've ever played.  :smitten:

Thanks, I may get with all the addons, since it is really cheap now.

I probably get one of AGEOD games, recommendation on those please (specially their performance):
Civil War 2
Revolution Under Siege
Pride of Nations
Alea Jacta Est

RUS works pretty well for me. By far the least terrible of the ageod games.

But anybody that knows me knows how much i hate their engine

If you do, head over to the AGEOD forums. A new patch was released on June 10. It doesn't help the long turn times, but it does fix a few other issues.

To be honest, I had many crashes and ugly stuff in the To End All Wars, but with Thirty Years War I didnt encounter any technical issues so far after 6 hours play and the turns are quick enough, also I am enjoying it tremendously.
Hope the other games I will get in are the same after the said patch.

I still prefer Alea Jacta Est (and especially it's expansions) over the others.  For performance, ease of use, and subject.

I've enjoyed the others in short bits, but AJE has been the one I return to most often.  It's also the most straightforward of the bunch IMO.

Get the DLC which covers the war(s) you are most interested in.

I liked Birth Of Rome, early on, because it has smaller scenarios featuring more troop variety on each side.  Set in the early Republic so it's Romans vs neighboring Italic tribes up to and including the first Punic War (over Sicily).  So, at the same time, it's pretty much limited to the Italian peninsula and a bit of North Africa which is a drawback if you want a large conflict covering a wide map area.

Picked up Hannibal Terror Of Rome last year, but have still have some of the original AJE & BOR scenarios to play.  But this is the one featuring the Second Punic War.  So it's a must-have at some point.

The base AJE game covers Roman Civil Wars.  While there are some minor non-Roman powers in some of them, the main fighting will be between two different Roman factions.

Since I've not done much Hannibal yet, I've not even picked up Parthian Wars.  That was one of the few things I'm thinking on picking up during this sale, though.

In the end, I think your interest in the specific wars or Roman era should be the deciding factor for the DLC.  I've always been more interested in the Republic era, notably the early part up to & through the Punic Wars, but others seem to prefer the Roman Civil War stuff (which comes with the base game anyway).

The good thing is that the AJE system is one of the easiest AGE games to learn.  It's more akin to the old Birth of America/Wars In America series because you don't need to do extra army organization which can be confusing for beginners when mixed with the UI usage.  But it also has some of the grand strategy decisions and troop production of the newer AGE games (since PON) without the turn processing getting bogged down.  Your forces are often concentrated in very few armies in most scenarios, so it doesn't fall to the AGE system's weakness (attempting to portray some semblance of a "front line" across long swaths of territory).

Thanks a ton, that was very helpful, I already played some AGEOD games such as TEAW and TYW, so I think this one will be easy to get into for me.
I guess I will get Birth of Rome and the Parthian Wars for now.

Sir Slash

I also have had my eye on AJE for some time now cause I love the period. The graphics look older so I wasn't too sure how the game played and if it had been updated at all. Sounds like a sure thing to me now.

It's based on the AGE versions from around ROP & RUS.  Well... more like an off-shoot from.  Came out before Civil War 2's slight change of UI, but it still has the newer features such as special events, building/decisions, and troop mustering.  With modifications, under the hood, to portray the Roman period of course.
