I guess I saw it coming for a while now, but Opie (formerly of Opie & Anthony) has split from Jim Norton. I knew their contracts were redone every October and saw a split coming ever since Anthony was booted out the door.

Opie is pretty dull now, actually. He was a lot more entertaining when he had Anthony to work off of. Jim Norton though is hilarious, and it looks like he and Sam Roberts have taken over the slot Mondays through Thursdays. Though, I read some reports of how Opie might be continuing with SiriusXM and Jim/Sam might keep their show as is. Since Jim signed a few days ago, Opie was feeling a little butthurt.

Yeah...Norton is awesome. He'll be fine without Opie. Opie, on the other hand, is a stuck-up dickhead.

I love Jim Norton and would follow him to the ends of the earth.

Anthony is totally messed up now AFAIK.

I thought the same thing staggerwing, especially the way this has gone.

Nah. Those threads have "RIP" in them. ;)

I almost cancelled my subscription when Anthony left; sure, he's a dickhead, but he's a highly entertaining one. It always felt like Opie was a color man of sorts for their show, which is funny since Opie is the one that gave Anthony his start. Opie rarely, if ever, said anything funny or interesting, except to laugh at Norton's characters.

I much prefer Sam Roberts to Opie; Sam and Jim have great chemistry. The whole ongoing thing for the last few weeks to name their show has been hilarious (it's now Jim Norton & Friends, but I think they started with Horsecock and Sam...LOL).

I've been wanting to subscribe to Anthony's show but since it's in the late afternoon I generally am not at a place where I can listen to it.

Opie worked when he was the straight man for Anthony and Jim. Once Anthony left, he didn't really have a role. He also acted like a whining toolbag from that point forward, so good riddance.

Opie is doing afternoons on his channel, and honestly, it's a lot more entertaining than I thought it would be. Mostly because Opie surrounds himself with multiple guests, usually stand-up comedians whom are hilarious (such as Vic Henley). If it weren't for those guests, Opie would have nothing. He's no Howard Stern.

Jim and Sam in the morning, on the other hand, are great. They have excellent chemistry. Only thing I get tired of is them interviewing porn stars; yeah, yeah, I get it, but they're so fucking boring to listen to.

I've put the radio on Howard's stations (both of them) a few times, and...he's just not funny. I guess if you've listened to him for years and you're used to it, you do it out of habit. From what you're saying, mirth, it sounds like Stern sucks, and I can believe that as I've just never heard anything really funny coming from either of those channels.

Now, the movie Private Parts, I liked that. Stern seemed like a human. I've heard stories about how he's an asshole, and how he's a wonderful guy, so who knows. Opie always bagged on Stern because of Stern's insisting nobody be in the hallways when his highness arrives, and that rubbed Opie the wrong way for a long time. I thought it was kind of funny; maybe Stern thought Opie was the asshole and maybe that rule only applies to Opie.  ;D

Who knows. If Private Parts is to be believed, it seems that Stern's good days are behind him.

mirth

I've never been a huge Stern fan. He is skilled as an interviewer, but my impression is that his best days are indeed behind him. He's not edgy or funny these days. And he has a notorious reputation as a prima donna, so I'm inclined to believe Opie's story.

The 'regular' DJs on most SiriusXM channels make shite (I want to say I heard they make about $50-100 a day/show, which is why you hear some of them on multiple channels). It's no wonder they pay those guys squat, since Stern is making ridiculous bank.

Gusington

I still find Stern funny and great to listen too...I think he has almost matured as an adult, which may turn a lot of people off.

I found out recently that a former boss of mine got fired by Stern back around 1980 or so, which I can so see because this guy is such an awkward tool. Stern must've wanted to kill him.

I haven't listened to Opie solo but he was my least favorite of the big three. Norton forever!

My dad turned me on to Stern back in the 80's.  He was doing very edgy stuff back then.  Haven't listened to his show in 20 years or so.  I have to think though, that everyone has caught up to him in terms of what you can/will do on radio.  So he's more, 'in the pack,' rather than out on the edge.
