Spider-Man: Homecoming

The MCU should introduce some popular character actor, who isn't doing much at any time and can be called in for an easy paycheck, to be the Tinkerer: one of the old-school Marvel villains who sets up the tech for a lot of the tech-based villains.

I remember reading The Further Adventures of Batman, an anthology of short stories,  many years ago. One of the stories focused on an inventor, named Kittlemeyer, who made gear for Batman and for the villians Batman fought (basically for anyone who could afford his services). I always thought that was a neat idea that would make for a good story in an RPG or something.

For variety's sake, perhaps the most critical anyone will every be about this movie (though I don't even care, still going to see it).

A lot of the more critical reviews I've seen/read really seem to be nitpicking, "We have to find things wrong with this movie so we don't sound like everyone else!".

Just back from seeing it. Excellent movie. Probably the most I've enjoyed a superhero flick since the first Guardians of the Galaxy. It's that good.

Here are some thoughts. I'll start with the "bad". There isn't much and you have to stretch a little to find it.

-What was done for a Vulture origin story was weak and unconvincing, but they needed to establish the character and they didn't waste a lot of time with it.

-Michael Keaton was under-utilized. Don't get me wrong, he was great, but I wish they had given him a little more freedom with the role.

- The plot relies on a pretty major contrivance. It doesn't ruin the movie, but it's a little disappointing. You'll get over it.

That's really all I can say negative about it. This is what I liked:

-Tom Holland is outstanding. Better in the role than either Maguire or Garfield. He is perfect as Peter Parker, gives the character real humanity. Someone finally figured out that they key to Spiderman (much like Mark Ruffalo with Hulk/Banner) is to get Peter Parker right.

-Supporting cast was excellent. And I don't just mean Stark and Vulture. Pete's friends, Aunt May, etc were all well cast and acted.

-No Spiderman origins story. Yay! I'm almost as sick of rehashing this origin story as the Batman story.

-I think Marisa Tomei is hotter now than she was 25 years ago. And she was great as May.

-The ending was possibly the best I've seen in any MCU movie. Almost perfect.

-The rest was what you've come to expect from any Marvel movie: Terrific set piece fights. Right blend of humor and action.

Out all the Spiderman movies, this may be the best. At the very least, it's on par with Raimi's Spiderman 2 (which was great imo). If you like these types of movies at all, go see it.  9.5/10
