is it a simple case of what you see now is what you see in 28 days or however long it lasts

if its not on sale now, its not going to be?

Meh.

I'm generally unimpressed again this year.  Just like last year.

Have seen deeper sale prices on a few of my wishlisted Steam titles in the past few months.  Wasn't in a big hurry before & this doesn't push me off the fence any faster either.

Debated picking up the a couple DLCs but I haven't even finished the base game yet.  And the two other indie games I was eyeing didn't get much of a change.  Mixed with already having plenty to catch up on, they can wait.   :-\

Pretty much everything on my wishlist is on sale...but it's a sobering thing to realize that I probably wouldn't install and play any of the games on my list, or that I'm seeing on sale on Steam at all, even if they just gave them to me. If it's something I really want to play, I already have it...  :(

I am also feeling meh. Most price cuts I am seeing are not doing it for me. What is happening to us?

Could it be that we own too many games?

Nah, couldn't be that...

Sorceror King: Rivals is showing up at 90% off if you own the original. Not sure if it's intentional or just the owner discount stacking with the sale one or something. Anyway, seems pretty cheap.

XCOM 2 looks tempting, I loved XCOM 1 but I heard there are timed missions. Not sure if that's fun (?).

I am about 30 hours in to the game, and well worth the price IMHO.  I am not a fan of the timed missions either, but you learn how to deal with them pretty quickly.  At about 20 hours in however, I the missions start to get very hard; but satisfying when you can escape with your cajones intact.  And you will lose troopers...

The price cuts on many of the sales haven't dipped as low as they would awhile back.

The older games which had been getting 75+ percent off in the past may still be getting it, but the ones from the past two or three years are lucky to hit half-off these days.  That wasn't the case for awhile, up until a year before last.

Starting to see better sale prices at other retailers than Steam.  Even outside of seasonal sale runs.  They clammed up.

^ I agree.

The Steam sales are a shadow of what they used to be - or other companies have picked up the mantel - either way, Steam isn't the "big one" it once was.

Also - a while back, the Winter Sale used to offer deeper cuts than the Thanksgiving Sale. Now they are, from what I see, identical. On top of that, I miss the daily specials.

So Steam for sales now is kind of "whatevs" :buck2:

Vae Victis...

Well, if you love a good conspiracy chant during the holiday season, consider that Steam has almost clinched inserting itself as the only distribution platform for PC games.

All capitalistic enterprise seeks monopoly, and when it gets there, the freebees are over; and both devs and consumers will get squeezed in this case...more money for Steam, less for the devs, and fewer good sales for us.  The dark future vision even has us poor slobs paying Steam for "maintaining" our accounts.

But that thought is just too dark to contemplate for long... ;)

Im still not thrilled, most cuts are not as good as summer sale, the only thing I will get now is Supreme Ruler Ultimate, since it is 70% off.
Maybe I will get Steel Armor (35%), I just do not like the fact that it was 40% off last year's winter sale.

lol - I wouldn't have painted the picture that dark.

monopoly or not (and they currently are not - not really) - they still have decent sales (just not as sweet as they used to be - or I have all the games I want so the ones that are on sale are the ones I couldn't really be bothered with and so the deal isn't as appealing.

Steam is still a superb platform for gaming. Cheap games, lots of indie stuff (if you're into that - at least they get an airing), a very diverse collection of games in one place, easy to pay, easy to play, supports mods, supports auto updating

Whether they turn out to be Cyberdyne or not, we may find out in my time left on this planet.
