For the record - I kind of agree that the Stallone one was in keeping with the comics (iirc). I used to love 2000AD.

However, I thought the Urban film was better.

I think that's because - much like the Marvel and DC stuff - I'm not interested in them keeping with the "tongue in cheek" comic theme.

I want serious, dark stories from these movies. I want them remade, I want them remade well and I want them to be dark and serious.

Stallone was a good choice for the role back then and that could have been a decent movie. It just ended up being terrible.

Demolition Man, released a couple years before the Stallone Dredd, was a much more entertaining movie with Stallone in a similar role.

And even more intentionally comedic than Stallone!Dredd. Yet inarguably much better. Plotting and scene design always makes a difference.
