Its 3am is auburn still standing?

We have had 12 hours of rain.  Another 20 hours of rain and we get the high winds to topple the trees, kill the power  and span tornados.

So, the storm center will be here in West TN (rather unexpectedly), by start of work tomorrow. Woo!


Heard from three sets of family (so far) in Central FL, eyewall passed over them all, but they're fine, no flooding to amount to there (it all ran five feet downhill I guess ;) ), and while some trees are down no damage to houses. Haven't heard specifically how the little girl took it, but nothing bad from them there either.

Heard from aunt's in-laws on Marco Island, the eyewall passed over them, too (as y'all already know), and it's a lake outside and they're without power, but otherwise okay. If their Dad has a medical problem he's screwed but I just can't have any sympathy for that -- he had a chance to get out, with them, and chose to stay. Choices have consequences and it wasn't like they didn't know the risks or couldn't do anything about it.  :(

And/or unlucky: they made their choices to stay when they thought the storm would run up the east coast. Opps!  ::)

Meanwhile, that storm only thought it had it rough being shot at by Floridians. It's gonna plow across the whole deep South now. It won't be worth  more than some crying rain by the time it gets to Missouri or Illinois, and y'all can finish it off for us.  >:D

Irma's starting to skirt my neck of the woods.   Biggest concern for me today is flooding, my house has settled enough that my back yard is essentially a pond in a heavy storm.   No work today, so waiting with baited breath to see if the dams and water breaks I spent all weekend building will hold.  So far so good.

Listening to White House daily press brief, it was stated that the USS Lincoln and 8 amphibs are in the Caribbean assisting the islands there. 

Not sure when people will be able to return to the Keys.  Still have to access the damage to the bridges connecting the islands.

For power restoration, their talking weeks.

My buddy that's stationed at Key West AFB was told to plan for Saturday, but be prepared for it to be longer based on the condition of the runways.
He's also part of the HQ that's based there, so he'll get flown back to work as soon as life support is established.  Not sure when his wife heads back to join him (both their kids are off at college).

We could use the rain, it's been pretty dry for a while now.  Hope everyone in the southeast is okay.

Just found out that my parents' neighbors are alive but absolutely no other info. There's no cell service but someone passed around a satphone and they got a quick call in to some other friends that passed on the word. No idea about the extent of the home damage yet since the lower Keys are essentially closed off from the outside world except to official travelers.
