It's really buggy and seems rather repetitive and boring.

The Stainless Steel mod adds the Kingdoms expansion factions to the grand campaign, and expands the map a bit.

Probably some other minor changes under the hood, but it doesn't change the game so much that it's unrecognizable.  Mainly just expands it while keeping the gameplay rather similar.  :bd:

My impression is no; SS is a long running mod that changes a number of things under the hood.

Whenifever you start playing the first game (order of dawn), be aware that after you create your character (which has a nice number of preliminary yet simple options by the way), you should be sure to check the "play tutorial" box before starting. On the plus side, you'll get a lot more information about how to do various things through a relatively short set of tutorial missions. On the down side, the tutorial missions will feature a TOTALLY UNRELATED CHARACTER for you to play for a good couple of hours before you finally get back to the low-level schlub you originally designed. Which could be confusing and a bit annoying (it was for me). Voice acting in the tutorial is amazingly bad in some places, too. (Well, after all, not native English speaking devs.)

You'll still get the prequel animation either way.

Oh, and when the Dark One shows up looking all Baalzamon, try not to have Wheel of Time flashbacks. Just try.  >:D

The Kingdoms expansion for M2TW was just a few extra mini-campaigns added to the game.

While they added some extra factions and units, each Kingdoms mini-campaign was it's own separate campaign and didn't add all that new stuff to the Grand Campaign. 

The Stainless Steel mod added some content & factions from those to the Grand Campaign. 

I believe it also did some less obvious adjustments such as slowing combat/movement in battles a bit, and other such popular adjustments.  Yet it didn't try to make any big crazy changes to the formula, so the gameplay still plays much like vanilla TW.

This is important!

Stainless Steel mod required a minor manual adjustment for the Steam version of M2TW. 

At some point the Medieval Total War 2 Steam version had the location of it's .EXE moved to a different part of the install folder structure.  IIRC, in order for the Stainless Steel mod to run properly, you'll have to copy & paste an EXE to the proper folder. 

I don't recall if it was making a copy of M2TW's exe in the orignal folder, or a matter of moving the mod's exe to same one, but is instructions for using it with the Steam version at the place you'll find the download links and install instructions.  It's not a big deal, and easy to do; just have to read about it.

2nd what Rayfer says...another example...Total War - Warhammer 2 is 53.99 at Steam. It is 50.00 at Fanatical plus the voucher discount.

I buckled like a belt since the sale & voucher got it down to ~$45. 

Still pricey but if the super mongo campaign is working okay for me then the pain will be lessened.  Just hope I'm not one of those unlucky bastids who gets the 5 minute turn resolution times. 

I won't know until the forkin corksuckers at Fanatical complete the "Manual Review" of my PayPal payment.   ::)  I now remember they did this to me every damn time I purchased something from them, in the past, when they had that other site name.    *thumb twiddling*

Nef I am looking to get TW Warhammer II down to like 30.00...that's what I finally bought the first game for. I think I can hold out for another 2-3 months...if the little kid in my doesn't override that in the next day or so :/
