According to this story, it might actually happen if Iran gets their nukes up and running.

Not sure how I feel about this.  It kinda feels like "out of the frying pan, and into the fire".  I suppose Saudi Arabia is the lesser of two evils for now, but not by much -- and for gods knows only how long...

there's a great story in the book The Gold of Exodus about the Israeli air force 'sending the Saudis a message'

The Israelis knew the Saudis were building a base for nuke dev/research
They flew a group of fighters through Saudi radar at NoE altitude and bombed the runway at that base...

Ha!  That'd be awesome (and utterly hilarious) if it actually happened.

unless, of course, you were one of the MkII pigs dropped  ;D

So long as they never dropped bacon.  THAT would be a waste.  Hmmm, I wonder quickly bacon would cook on a Saudi paved runway?
Any time is a good time for pie.

I believe someone else posted that link in another thread in the last 3-6 months.  Definitely a great story!

Jarhead - Yeah. You're probably right.

Gus - I use sweatpants with flannel shorts to soak up my crotch sweat.

Banzai Cat - There is no "partial credit" in grammar. Like anal sex. It's either in, or it's not.

Mirth - We learned long ago that they key isn't to outrun Star, it's to outrun Gus.

Martok - I don't know if it's possible to have an "anti-boner"...but I now have one.

Gus - Celery is vile and has no reason to exist. Like underwear on Star.

So what the heck did you wait so long to post it in here for??  Successfully casting the "Necro-post" spell only gets more difficult the older the thread, you know.  :P

When did this happen? Maybe that is the original jsow.

If the Saudi's really wanted to do it who really is to stop them? They have the money to do it and could cause major problems for the West if they withheld oil for a period of time. Their armed forces are considerable too. Militarily, they are not what they were in the 1970's. They would be a difficult opponent for Israel, and if Israel attacked them their government would improve its own shaky foundation with its Wahabi population if it did stand up to Israel. The Saudi's have a lot of investment in the US, and any US president will think twice about picking a fight given the potential domestic economic consequences. If developing civil nuclear power is the aim, then I think the only people likely to be in the frame for facing off against the Saudi's will be Israel. If they do, the situation is fraught with problems and diplomatically the Saudi's can quite legitimately quote Israel's own nuclear program, and challenge why they shouldn't have one too.
The most shocking fact about war is that its victims and its instruments are individual human beings, and that these individual beings are condemned by the monstrous conventions of politics to murder or be murdered in quarrels not their own. Aldous Huxley
