Good squad control/planning game right now?

I am in the mood for plotting plans for squads.

Something like the original Rainbox 6. Team members you individually plot for. Modern/Urban (SWAT/terrorists, not specops/jungle). You equip each team member in planning, and weapon names are real-world (not like Arma, which has made up ones).

The only thing I didn't like about R6 was that you are forced to play one of the squad members yourself. I would like that to be optional.

Anything new around for that topic.

P.S. I hate Ubisoft, so if that can be avoided even better.

Well, a first question comes to mind:

Which is the Clancy games (Rainbow, Ghost recon) kept the feature where you plot squad member's actions in advance (after equipping them). I would hate to pick up one of the suckers just to find a first-person shooter. Screenshots on Steam are useless.

Sadly, they just do not make games like this anymore.

The original Rainbow 6 series had the most robust form of pre-mission planning. However, if memory recalls, the original Ghost Recon and even the Advanced Warfighter series had tools for mission planning, but I think it was done on the map in mission, as opposed to pre-mission.

I know the presence of near future, but hypothetical technology in ARMA 3 turns you off (although I do not know why), but the ARMA 3 format is your best option. If you learn how to build missions with basic to advanced scripting, you can create extremely complex mission plans and scenarios. I think you could even run them and play in Zeus, so you wouldn't even technically need to play in SP yourself. If the near future tech bothers you that much, just mod it. There are mods in ARMA for just about every nation and every period of the 20th century.

There is an old game called The Regiment that I think has pretty detailed mission planning options. It is not available digitally as far as I know, and it was never made for the US market. Finally, check out the old titles Hidden & Dangerous I & II. I'm pretty sure they have some pretty robust mission planning, but you do have to play as one of the squad members. Fantastic old games that are available on GOG.

The only other titles that come to mind are VBS and TitanIM, but VBS is restricted and I don't think Titan is available for civilian or educational use outside of government/military.

If I think of anything else, I'll add to this, but if there was anything out there that facilitated this, I'd be playing it.

So I snooped around the house and my copy of the original R6 is physical. There is a Rainbox 6 3.0 on steam which specifically says that it has pre-mission planning, so I'll spend those 10 bucks to have it in steam and to see what 3.0 added.

I'll try to get used to Arma. It just never clicked with me.

(yes I know I should shut up and use Steel Beasts instead :))

I just loaded up Door Kickers again, forgot how good this game was. If you want to plot moves for squads and not participate give this a look. If can take awhile to put a one plan together, here's a video of some examples. There's some work shop mods also.
