$6.78 on GamersGate today. I liked it a lot, despite the goofy mini-games (which can be avoided altogether)

I may be tempted...how good is it for a turn-based strategy junky like me?  :o

It's very good, and very deep.  It's also character-based, almost as if Crusader Kings was turn-based.  Every city has generals who have a couple of dozen stats, skills, abilities, and relationships.  Every turn you have so many action points, and anything you want to do - from building up your infrastructure to waging war-has a cost in ap's, and is accomplished by ordering a general (or generals - you can assign up to three to a team) to do it. New generals can appear, be recruited from other factions, or recruited from within a city. As they age, their abilities change (this can be turned off),and you have to monitor their loyalty and reward them from time to time.

There's a good degree of micro-management, and some of the graphics are pretty poor (the units) but it can be a very satisfying experience.

Drat. This is the one I already have. For a second I thought they might have released the other ones... or maybe that newer edition of Nobunaga's Ambition.

They haven't released an English one for a very long time already. ROTK XI was released during the PS2 era (2006?).
None during the PS3 era.

There is actualy ROTK 12 (Windows) but that's in Japanese.  http://www.gamecity.ne.jp/sangokushi/12/
I hear that people are working on patches/mods to turn it to English.  http://the-scholars.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=22316

How could I have missed this thread?  I'm a huge RtK junkie and own almost every single one of the games in the series.  I even have RtK 5 for PSP which was never released in North America.

RtK is not exactly a John Tiller wargame in terms of complexity, however it is not Risk either.  I wouldn't categorize it as a spreadsheets in ancient China either as these games are a little more colorful than that.

I had one of the iterations for the PSOne and loved it!  I bought one for the PS2 and was less impressed.  I would love to see one for the PC.  A little beefed up on graphics and A.I.

After playing with RTK XI for the whole weekend.  I came to the conclusion that RTK X is still the best.  XI lost the option for you to chose a lower raking officer (not the faciton leader) and work your way up the ranks like Crusader Kings.  It also got rid of the inidividual quests / missions that make the game an immersive RPG.

RTK XI is a more streamlined strategic wargame.
