I read a forum post here today (I can't find it now) where someone stated they were downloading the game Sleeping Dogs. Then I happen to see this article on PC Gamer and thought I would link to it.

http://www.pcgamer.com/2012/08/14/sleeping-dogs-six-months-of-dlc-incoming/

I would be pretty ticked off to read that the just released game I purchased has six months of intensive upcoming DLC planned. This would lead me to believe the developer/publisher had the DLC planned from the beginning and I in  turn would have to question "Did I just pay full price for half a game?" or "Why is the upcoming DLC not already in the game?". To me DLC  is getting out of control but unfortunately it has become the accepted business model. The only way to fight it is to never buy a game until the "game of the Year" edition is out.

In a effort at fairness, here is Paradox's views on DLC:

I personally don't get the hate on for DLC. Would you have been angry to hear a developer say they had plans to release an expansion in 6 months?

Later this week, the first DLC comes out. It's a new set of clothes? Honestly, who cares? If someone wants to shell out for that, more power to them. Meanwhile, the graphics artists get to be employed a little longer.

Is the game any good?

I've seen enough that I'm interested...so I'm about to pick it up.  ;D

For a while I saw 2 DLCs available on Steam for it yesterday.
One of them was all about giving you extra Experience Points, seriously :P

Anyway, I can't play this until Friday (the release date for non-Americans).

Whatever. If you have money to blow, send it to me. Maybe I'll send you back a sticker and you can attached to your Sleeping Dogs game and call it DLC.

Yeah...ok...but how is the actual game?

I have no idea. Its not my kind of game.  I should not have been so flippant with my previous post, how people spend their money is their own business. Besides, why should I care how businesses market their products. Methinks I'm no longer going to be a gaming consumer for the next year or so; I'm going to retire from purchasing games and sort through my backlog.

^You mean you don't even have it? Ohhhhhhh...ok. This is one of those "complain about DLC for a game I would never buy anyway threads..."  ???

It's the American way.

Ah. Sarcasm, how cute.  I suppose one has to starve first before he can complain about rising food prices or children going hungry in the third world. I guess I'm not allowed to complain about the rise of bank fees if I don't have a bank account. I should not voice concerns if the stock market looses 400 points if I don't own stocks.

I better make a list of everything I own so I'll know what I'm allowed to comment on and what I can't.

I wasn't trying to censor you. If I was, you would have known it. I was only trying to point out for others from where your perspective is coming and why you started this thread. That being said, I don't like your tone. Please adjust it.

LOL!

;D

FF does have a point that makes you wonder.. just how much stuff may have been held back for the DLC instead of released along with the game.

Surely we all realize that this is likely to happen with some companies, if it hasn't already.

Has plenty and plenty of times.
A lot (if not most) DLC bearing games these days come with the DLCs already included in the base game, and just require you to pay to unlock.
If I remember correctly, Bioshock 2 was the first to do so, and was criticized at the time for it (and as usual, it still worked very well for them).
