We started off the session with a major defeat as the Viet Minh in the Huguette 1 scenario of Dien Bien Phu but finished off with a major victory by the end of it after a lot of bloody fighting. After wrapping up the last few turns of that, we dove into Huguette 2 scenario where it seems we are fighting over the same ground, but against an aggressive French adversary. This is making the fight a little more interesting! It's still bloody though, I'm suffering a wackload of casualties as I advance into the French fire, where every move feels like it brings death and destruction. Courte vie à la France!

Campaign Series East Front: After a brief update we dove back into the Gross Deutschland Linked Campaign that details the fighting around Kursk. We finished off the fourth scenario today with a minor victory. It was a rough go as there was some T-34's and KV tanks in my rear, but I managed to overcome and secure the towns we needed to hold the day. Next we are being sent over to the west to help 3rd Panzer Division, as they appear to be stalled. Next session will be extra exciting as we are expecting a large tank counter attack in our sector and we've been giving a couple handfuls of Panzer IVF2's to help! Exciting times!

What a mess. I have never seen so many casualties during the opportunity fire phases and assault phases. I guess I was thinking I was in a better position than I was in this scenario. The French had some scripting in this scenario, which was easy to tell as they were heavily defending a northern objective. My assaults seem to be for naught, although I did manage to destroy a number of French 105mm guns. Every little bit helps in the chaos of the assault!

We dove into the fifth scenario of the Linked Campaign Game and we were doing exceptionally well. We were expecting tanks in the south to make their appearance from a forested area. We waited and waited in a devious ambush with our Tigers and Panzer IVF2s ready to wipe out the hordes of Russian tanks, based on the description the scenario designer noted. Of course, being a completely evil scenario designer myself, I should have known better. When the tanks game, it turned into a cluster firetruck. What a fight, a nasty fight, but a fun fight!

After a hiatus for family, I have returned back to the streams! Today's session was an overview of the current state of things and then we dove back into the Vietnam Dien Bien Phu set of scenarios. We made it to scenario number 9, of 10, and I had to remember what I was doing since the last session. We made some decent progress, but stalled in the attacks on the fortifications. I was unpleasantly surprised by the counter attack and the return of nightfall, which I need to learn to pay more attention to as it completely affected the outcome of the scenario and destroyed my plans. Murphy and his law must have been around!

Ah it's good to be back! We dove back into the Gross Deutschland Linked Campaign as we are fighting in the Kursk battle. We finished the 5th scenario after some intense scraps and losses of StuG-III's. It had been awhile since we had played and I had completely forgotten about the entire right flank. HA! After the successful fight we dove into the next where we held a flank waiting for a counterattack while we skirted the Russian defences to continue our advance north. There was a battalion of T34's supported by KV's, but we survived that scrap to move to the 7th battle. It looks like a twin valley advance towards defended objectives, much the same as the previous fighting, but for this battle, we've been given a company of Tigers. TIGERS! Woohoo!

We started the final battle of the Campaign Series Vietnam Dien Bien Phu series of scenarios. It's a big one and a short one, relatively. We have a lot to do in a short time, but this is the end, so we're going all in! Losses are increasing as we continue to push into the defences, although we are making some progress and have captured a couple locations to get the ball rolling. We have Viet Minh rockets this time, which is exciting! Isabelle has been surrounded and hopefully isolated. It will be a nasty fight, but the battle of all battles here in Indochina!

Back in action at Kursk. We were all set in this scenario for a large tank battle and it did deliver that indeed. Our GrossDeutschland Kampfgruppe was supported by a tank battalion and a company of Tigers. We were advancing into position and preparing for a counter attack on the flank when bam, out of no where a horde of T-34's were all over the place. It turned into a desperate battle fighting across valley tops with a mass amount of tanks, including some KV's. This was a fantastic fight, even if completely unnerving.

We went over the latest update for the Campaign Series and then dove into the final Dien Bien Phu scenario of the set of 10 from the Campaign Series Vietnam game. This is the grand finale, it is a rather rough scenario, taking over areas we have been before, although it seems better defended and there are a lot of French fighting tooth and nail for each position. Isabelle is being reduced slowly before I perform an assault. I cut off their escape route and that is working to my advantage. My assaults in the main Dien Bien Phu base are whittling down the French, but progress is slow and tedious. What a fight!

Our Kampfgruppe from GrossDeutschland is slowly getting whittled down, but the attached tank battalion in the scenario definitely helped us secure the victory for this part of the campaign. We had another decision point type scenario after the battle and the consensus was the wait until morning. That allowed us some new replacements and we received some additional reinforcements to help with the fight for Oboyon. The only issue is that it seems I am fighting over the same ground again that I took in the last scenario, except significantly better defended. I have a new hate for the SU-85 as they seem to be effective at killing tanks and infantry.

We went over the latest and greatest Campaign Series news, mostly about the Cold War 2D Silhouettes and then returned to the final battle in the Campaign Series Vietnam Dien Bien Phu series of scenarios. It's a tedious fight but we are gaining progress. We're on the doorsteps of the headquarters while we isolate various French positions, cutting off their supply and reducing their effectiveness. Day light has arrived which has made our artillery a wee bit more effective, especially against the trenches. The French are having a bad day as the Viet Minh are swarming all over their positions. C'est la guerre.

Well we did it! We finished the Gross Deutschland Linked Campaign game in Campaign Series East Front. It was a glorious victory with the final capture of Oboyan. The streets were filled with jubilant Russians. Oh wait, wrong thing. After the campaign ended I asked what to play next and Tide asked for Blunting the Sword. We decided to play it as the Germans as I figured it would be more of a challenge against HAL. Well, holy crap, the British have tanks. And then some more tanks. My reinforcement tanks are coming on the map, but it is piecemeal and I'll have to decide where the primary threats are. Right now it is easy - they are EVERYWHERE!

It was a glorious feeling finally wrapping up these Dien Bien Phu scenarios for Campaign Series Vietnam. I was using the BETA version of the Spring update, so there are few little new things to see! Before the violence, we went over the latest and greatest news for the Campaign Series and gave an overview of how the assignments of the silhouettes will work in the game. After the completion we dove into The Contradiction Vietnam scenario that has us in control of a armoured Task Force to counter-ambush a Viet Cong ambush. I've played this before, but it's been a long while and it will be nice to try it, especially with all the changes in the recent updates. On the bright side, there are tanks, helicopters and a whack load of goodies to play with in this scenario!
