Jarhead, I have this book and it's pretty good:

It isn't focused on just US and WW2, so it might lack the depth you're seeking.  It reads sort of like a Janes publication.  Might be worth having in your library regardless.

I can send you a screenshot or two of a couple pages to show you what kind of info is in there; let me know.

Have you read Death Traps by Belton Y Cooper? Controversial but I found it to be an interesting read.
