Not sure if has been mentioned, but War of the Roses available for pre-order now.  If you own any of the M&B games, you get 20% making it only $23.99.  You also get access to the beta.

Im still not sure about his one.  It looks tempted but I have a funny feeling I won't enjoy the game play.

I meant to say, "Don't preorder until you have a chance to read the impressions in the Steam forums so you can make an informed decision."

Can't.  But I know you guys and, so...that's all I'm going to say.

Ahh ok.  Thanks for the heads up.

I refuse to pre-order anything associated with Paradox Publishing.  Besides if you want a Mount and Blade game just play mount and blade.  The multiplayer is actually pretty damned fun.

Read up and decide.

This is interesting.

Paradox's M.O. has for a long time been focused on publishing a game and then issuing patches until it works.

As Toonces noted, the Steam forums seem to have a fair amount of chatter that is less than flattering.

To this I have two thoughts:

First, anytime I (pre)review Beta code I make sure to explicitly *not* discuss the negatives. A Beta is, by definition, incomplete. If you can see something broken it's a darn good bet that the devs know it, too.

Second, Paradox's business strategy has traditionally been to make allowances for some unfixed bugs in order to get the game out the door, get a revenue stream going, fix the bugs, and ultimately produce a solid game. They have recently announced a change in that strategy but it's not surprising that a game issued this soon after the announcement may not be covered under said change.

So it is my conclusion that a pre-purchase of a Paradox game is a vote of confidence not in the game's version 1 release state, but rather in Paradox's ability to fix the game after a series of patches. Not everyone likes that publishing strategy, but that's usually what you're signing up for.

Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.

I guess the nice thing is it is a preorder which I do believe steam allows you to cancel up until the release date.  Couldn't try it yesterday because the servers were down so really no thoughts yet.  We'll see how it goes once I can actually play it.  If the game doesn't seem to have a good chance of being fun and good, then I can walk away:). What is very interesting about this one is their approach with public beta.  If they end up releasing it in bad shape, there will be a huge outcry since a ton of people will know how bad it was at release.  Same thing happened for making history ii where they had preorder access and everyone knew it wasn't ready but they released anyway.

It would have been nice if  you actually could get Beta access from pre-order.
But so far, they've been giving away beta keys only to those that bought through Steam, and those that bought through GG
or anywhere else just got screwed. (Paradox won't give the other retailers the keys, despite the fact the Beta thing was originally supposed to be a GG exclusive)
