Good lord.  I had no idea just how much DLC I own for this game I own (and I know it's not even half of what's out there).  :o

What's more puzzling -- and slightly alarming -- to me, is that I don't even remember getting some of these DLC's, and/or what possessed me to do so.

I mean, I absolutely remember picking up a lot of the older content:  Legacy of Rome, Rise of Islam, The Republic, The Old Gods, and Sons of Abraham were all expansions I eagerly anticipated.

But Ruler Designer?  Way of Life?  Reaper's Due?  Horse Lords?  Holy Fury?  Charlemagne?  Not I only do I not recall purchasing most of these, I'm not even sure why I wanted to grab them in the first place.  (Actually, I can understand the appeal of Horse Lords and Charlemagne.)

The only thing I can think of is that at some point, Paradox must have had a big-time sale on all their CK2 DLC, perhaps wrapped up in a bundle or two.  (It would explain why I also have so much cosmetic content like portraits and music ("Songs of Albion", etc.).)  Sheesh.  ::)

I am surprised that everyone does not already own this game and all the DLC:)

FarAway Sooner

I tried this game over and over, but could never get the hang of the UI.  I finally gave up after about the fourth try.

Go ahead.  Call me a blasphemer.

It's definitely the kind of game that requires the right things to "click".  It takes a while to learn how to read the UI at a glance, since it's cluttered with a lot of information, but it helps if you're familiar with other Paradox grand strategy games.

If it helps, all you really need to do to get started, is pay attention to the floating notifications at the top, and pump the clock at 3x or 4x speed.  Those top notifications will let you know about any pressing matters you need to do at the beginning, and once those are taken care of you can just sit back and watch the clock go by and react to events as they pop up, and ignore everything else until you're ready to poke around with the fiddly UI.
A War of a Madman's Making - a text-based war planning and political survival RPG

It makes no difference what men think of war, said the judge.  War endures.  As well ask men what they think of stone.  War was always here.  Before man was, war waited for him.  The ultimate trade awaiting its ultimate practitioner.  That is the way it was and will be.  That way and not some other way.
- Cormac McCarthy, Blood Meridian

If they made nothing but WWII games, I'd be perfectly content.  Hypothetical matchups from alternate history 1980s, asymmetrical US-bashes-some-3rd world guerillas, or minor wars between Upper Bumblescum and outer Kaboomistan hold no appeal for me.

I guess it's sort of nice that the word "tactical" seems to refer to some kind of seriousness during your moments of mental clarity.

Wow...I didn't expect Crusader III.  Can't imagine starting all over with the DLC:(  I wonder what will be different, the news didn't say much yet.

I'm with FarAway...tried several times with CKII and it flummoxed me. Will be trying again in a few weeks.

While I wasn't expecting CKIII (which we now have a separate thread for), part of me did think the free-to-play CK2 model was here to stay, not only this weekend. I think that's because I didn't see a clock or anything like that when I stumbled over to check on it for some other reason and surprise, huh, it's ftp now, that makes sense...
ICEBREAKER THESIS CHRONOLOGY! -- Victor Suvorov's Stalin Grand Strategy theory, in lots and lots of chronological order...
Dawn of Armageddon -- narrative AAR for Dawn of War: Soulstorm: Ultimate Apocalypse
Survive Harder! -- Two season narrative AAR, an Amazon Blood Bowl career.
PanzOrc Corpz Generals -- Fantasy Wars narrative AAR, half a combined campaign.
Khazâd du-bekâr! -- narrative dwarf AAR for LotR BfME2 RotWK campaign.
RobO Q Campaign Generator -- archived classic CMBB/CMAK tool!

They changed it recently : the base game of CKII is now free to play permanently.

Are the Teutonic Knights playable in any iteration of CKII?
