Latest Wargaming Acquisitions

Just finished my first campaign of Thunderbolt-Apache Leader! Great fun in Iraq (intro campaign).

Met the campaign conditions of destroying at least 2 enemy battalions each of the first 2 days.

Third day I got a bit cocky and tried to go for an Outstanding result. First 2 missions that day went pretty well with both battalions being destroyed for only light dame on my aircraft and 1 really stressed pilot as he went bingo 10+ fuel getting the last kill needed.

Last mission of the day saw my A-10A taking on an AAA battalion solo... Not a good plan.... 4 kills first turn, pylon and a structure damage taken then killed 2 more units including a pop-up enemy helo. Then start of third turn my pilot got nailed by 2 AAA and 2 SAM heavy hits resulting him being wounded, engine damage, canon damaged and forced to low altitude. He couldn't attack anymore since he was wounded so he just flew off the map, only scoring half kill on the battalion.

Very happy with this purchase. If you have any interest in this type of game, get it! Order from NWS for a really good price.

Man alive did I get the hook diggity up for Xmas this year.

I got: Next War: Korea, Last Night on Earth, Wrath of Ashardalon (completing my D&D trilogy!). 

Additionally, I bought a mint copy of Onward, Christian Soldiers for myself for my birthday, and finally, a game I have really wanted for a while, a copy of Cry Havoc bundled with Siege.

Whew!  I think I'm good to go on the boardgaming front for a while...  8)

how do those play?

I've only played Ravenloft so far, but they're great to play with the kids.

Out of the box they're ok.  You basically move, place a new tile, draw a new monster card, fight, get loot, rinse and repeat.  The monster cards have directions on how the monsters move, so you can play it solo as well.

There are some really neat looking campaign rules on BGG and user-made scenarios that add a lot of beef to the stock games.  Also, you can combine some of them into monster dungeon crawls.  They have tons of plastic and the contents are top notch. 

I give all of them a firm thumbs up and recommend picking them up before they go out of print.

Well I scored a copy of Wings of Glory at the LGS.

WWI or WWII?

  Not my photo but this is what I got.  It was on sale so it worked out well for me.  I really would have preferred the WW1 version but all in due time.  To be honest it was a hard choice I had to make.  I told Household 6 I'd be responsible in my spending so that was a limiting factor.  It was between Wings of Glory, Axis & Allies Angels 20, or a different board game.   I was overwhelmed by the different board games (they didn't have any real hex and counter stuff other than GMT's Korea game but that didn't really interest me).  In the end,  Wings of Glory won out because I've looked at it about a 100 times on NWS and other sites.   I'm pretty stoked to break it out on the kitchen table tonight.

OK.   I read the basic rules.  Seem simple enough and played with the minis for a few minutes.  Thank God for a wife who always me to indulge my inner geek.

I have the original Wings of War WWI version and it's a blast to play with a group. We usually play with 6, 3 per side. Have never used the altitude rules.... have never seen the need. It's a great game to play while drinking lots of beer.
Haven't tried the WWII version.

I've been tempted by the Wings of War games on numerous occasions but have held off.  Let us know what you think when you can spend time with it Bison.

A little late but I thought I would show off my Christmas haul.

I'll be using this for game Bolt Action in 15mm.

Memoir '44 and Combat Commander were Christmas presents from my wife.  (I know I am a lucky man)  Chainmail I got from Worthington Games during their Black Friday sale.  Twilight Struggle I purchased off of GMT's P500 earlier this year.  All in all its quite a good haul, now I just need to find time to play all of these.
