I'm going to have my own Website soon (Stand by for some AAR's) and I'm trying to decide on a name.

The easiest choice appears to be my own name. I try to go to the address, for example (JohnDoe.com), and the browser can't find it, which suggests that no domain name squatter parasites have snatched it up. Other ideas I've had are taken, but there are companies magnanimously willing to sell them to me! (aforementioned domain name squatter parasites)

i think its ok
especially if your are a kind of artist or author ... and since you will have AAR's or a blog, the author-argument is fitting here.
maybe you consider adding 'blog', or 'side' to that name... like John-Doe's-Blog.com to seperate it from a business orientated place ...because in addition if you (or someone else with the same name) are runing a business coupled to your name, let's say an architect-, lawyer- or engineering office it also make sense,  but then there should be not much 'private' content on display

I think it's fine to use your name. In the end , the content you put up will matter far more than the domain name. If you want to know for sure that the domain is available go to GoDaddy (or another domain registrar) and use their lookup tool.

I think it's probably fine.

I have a friend who bought the URL for his name so he could host family pictures and stuff.

OTOH I would love to see your AARs here. But I don't blame you for wanting to have your own site. These days pretty much everyone can. :)

Thanks, guys. Gee, I wonder if that lookup tool is used to give them ideas about what names to snatch up?

The site will start as a blog, but will hopefully end up offering some professional services in the not too distant future. Maybe I should stick with JohnDoe.com as the main domain name and have my blog as a separate section.

I could put the AAR's here as well, but I expect them to take up a lot of space. Many pictures and turn by turn commentary from my opponent and I about each major move and strategic shift. In other words, I'm planning a lot of detail.

Edit: No one who replied voted?

Oh good grief...I meant to answer no, it's fine. I mis-clicked and answered yes, and you're a douchebag for thinking it's cool.

So ignore that yes vote. It shouldn't exist.  8)

Call your site whatever you want to. It is your site, after all.

I can't see the poll results, despite being the originator and hitting the "View Poll Results" button. Nothing happens. Strange.

Odd that you can't see them. These are the current results.
