Having done military time long ago I can just sigh and say
that this is just another example why it is a good thing that
we have civilian government with all its attendant flaws.
An important trial cannot proceed because an organisation
is hogtied by its own regulations and unable to improvise
to meet a situation which is not exactly unimaginable.
Our lessons from military history tell us the importance of
flexibility and improvisation but the peace time army is incapable
of such unorthodoxy.  Webel ist webel has been proven to not be
a defence.  On the other hand screaming for execution before a fair
trial is bad form.  The way the Army is handling this you have to wonder
if they caught the right guy.
