I got this. One is Ni Hon, or Nippon - Japan, the other is a Japanese person. :)

It's been 20 years now since I was in Japan, I was there as an English teacher and never learned much Japanese - they always wanted to practice English.

But toss some more my way. Simple stuff I'll know: high, bridge, exit, etc. The names of some cities in the Kanto Plain.

I think of Chinese to Japanese as Latin is to French. Related, romance languages, but still quite different in many respects. Understanding one will help with understanding the other, but they aren't the same.

Hey, I get the character for "high" here. You said that one character was mountain. So two characters 出, is like two mountains or very high. Cool!
