Alrighty then.  It looks like my serious players will be Staggerwing, SCDJ and Bayonet_Chris.  A smaller party than I like, but certainly stout hearted and ready to rock.  If any of the rest of you who have replied would like to join the party of confirmed players, please post here by Sunday evening.

A little background:  While human civilization has flourished for thousands of years in the South, the edges of empire, especially the North, have been the province of bandits, monsters, petty kingdoms and darker things.  The Avion Knights have held these riff raff at the borders for almost as long.  Now, with the discovery of a large vein of metal, especially tuned to taking enchantments, a rush for the North has begun.

The Southern Empire is run by mages and the precious metal they use in fashioning their devices is scarce.  This Northern find represents an opportunity for many types to make their fortune.  It also represents an opportunity for trouble untold.

Our heroes will be attached to a monastery of St. Alphonso, a cleric in olden times who roamed the North lands, the Order of Alphonso is dedicated to protecting human habitation of the North.

Can I join too please? :) Do you want us to pre-role our characters?

OK, I'll roll up a character tonight or tomorrow when I get a few minutes.

Staggerwing

Give me a quick run down on how to create a character. I can refer to the Osric rules afterwards to procede.

If we are creating out own characters I would need this info to, being a newbie and all.

You'll need to roll your 6 "Stats". A character's basic attributes are represented in the game by six "ability scores." These abilities are Strength (Str), Dexterity (Dex), Constitution (Con), Intelligence (Int), Wisdom (Wis), and Charisma (Cha). The first three represent the character's
physical qualities, and the second three his or her mental ones. Each of these abilities is represented by a number from 3-18, the higher the better.

Not sure which method MetalDog is going with for that;

  • Roll 3d6 for each ability in order.
  • Roll 3d6, place in any order.
  • Roll 4d6, dropping the result of the lowest die, place in any order.
Chapter 1 of OSRIC covers Character Creation (its 31 pages long but most is just fluff, i.e. charts and stuff like that).

First method is hard core but last method will give everyone a solid character with no duds.

Shelldrake, you most assuredly can join.

The method used is 4d6, drop the lowest number and assign the scores to fit the class best.  Fighters should have high Strength, Dexterity and Constitution scores.  Clerics should have high Wisdom scores.  Rangers and Paladins have class requirements, i.e. minimums, to reach before they can even be accepted as that class.

Your character sheet should have the stats, in this order, down the left hand side:

Str(ength)
Int(elligence)
Wis(dom)
Dex(terity)
Con(stitution)
Cha(risma)

Starting with a score of 13 or higher, bonuses are given for each stat.  A high Strength gives bonuses to hit and damage.  Wisdom gives bonus Cleric spells.  Dex lowers your Armor Class (AC which is the number used to determine whether or not an opponent can hit you with a physical attack).  Con gives you + Hit Points.  Int is bonus languages and Magic User Spells and Charisma is better relations with strangers (Non Player Characters (NPC's)) and henchmen.

Class determines dice rolled to determine Hit Points (your health and how much damage you  can take before you die).  You will all start as 1st level characters.

It would be nice to have a rough idea of why your character is adventuring.  Any backstory you want to create can be PM'd to me and we can work in to the specific details of the world around you.

Are you going to roll for us? Also, for the backstory, what can you tell us about St Alphonso and the Monastery?
What do the Clerics do when not wandering or fighting? What religion are the Clerics?

My doctor wrote me a prescription for daily sex.

My wife insists that it says dyslexia but what does she know.
