Can I Brag?

After reading Jim Zabek's spot-on review of CoD: Black Ops 2, I decided I would do a little bragging here about a really good session I had a few nights ago in BlOps 2. :)

Overall, I have a love / hate relationship with Call of Duty games. I mean, I love the competitive e-sports nature of the game, but my fingers (and PC, for that matter) are getting too old to remain competitive. Strangely, though, every now and then I have a good night. A few nights ago I had a very good night (for me, anyway ;D ) in that I actually went 15:16 instead of my usually awful 4:16. ::)

Good times. That was the first time I achieved four consecutive kills and earned a "bloodthirsty" badge. 8)

EDIT: I've noticed a lot of modern shooters now include many bullpup weapons. Is this the agreed upon direction of modern weaponry? How come it suddenly became popular with weapon smiths?

I love it when I have a particularly good run in a shooter.

You'll need someone like JH to talk to you about the evolution of the bullpup. It's my understanding that it shortens the overall length, providing a rifle's power and accuracy while being more wieldy in confined spaces.

LB is correct. A bullpup rifle has its action behind the trigger group. This decreases the rifle's overall length and weight while maintaining barrel length. So you end up with a smaller, more maneuverable weapon that retains its long range capability and accuracy.

They have been around for a long time actually (over 100 years I think), but the first really successful design was the Steyr Aug which came out in the 1970s. I think they are becoming more popular now because of the nature of warfare. Tight, confined urban environments require maneuverability. You have to get that barrel around quickly and safely when clearing rooms in buildings.

I have so many guns, I forget what is in my collection sometimes, but I know I have an FN FS2000 (.223), a Keltec RFB (.308) and an MSAR (.223 based on the Aug), which are all bullpup rifles. The FN and MSAR expend brass forward, which is pleasant for left-handed shooters. My MSAR expends to the right though. It may have a reversible port though, I'm not sure.

Hey JH.

I just watched a vid on the FS 2k. Interesting little design. Do the ejected shells ever get jammed? It seems like pushing them all the way forward of the rifle would leave an opportunity to jam.

Looks like stable platform, but in the CQB model the side rails look like they're right in the way of where your hand grips.

^I've never had a failure to extract. What happens sometimes is that a bunch of casings get hung up in the feed and they all shoot out at the same time. It doesn't bother me, and I actually think its quite cool when 10 spent casings shoot out in rapid succession.

What I don't like about the FS2000 is the chamber. Access to it is restricted by a relatively small plastic cover. While I've never had a jam, if one ever happened in the field, it might be necessary to disassemble the receiver in order to clear the round. This is bad for obvious reasons.

i can sit for ages kitting out different classes in CoD:MW/GRFS cycling thru all those guns and staring in amazement at the assortment on show - only to find out JH has got them all in his basement!

LOL! That is an impressive collection! 8) Thanks for the pics and bullpup explanation, JH.

I am particularly enjoying the speculative weaponry in BlOp2. It makes for a nice change of pace from the tried and true.

BTW: I had another good night the other day: managed to knock down five clay pigeons in a row for another "bloodthirsty" merit badge. 8) I don't know if I am getting better, or they are getting worse. ;D Which brings up a good point to remember when it comes to evaluating your performance in a shooter: you're only as good as the competition allows you to be. In an intensely competitive shooter like CoD, you often encounter some hardcore competition - the CoD equivalent of a chess GM. Hence, why you are awful one night, but do much better another.

I wish Treyarch would tweak the new League system in BlOps2 so you can request a league match for any gameplay mode, and not just for 6x6 moshpits. Don't know why they stopped short of that.
