Also, I've heard that Titan Quest (and its expansion) are very respectable Diabclones. Aren't they part of the THQ bundle?

I probably shouldn't ask, but...

any defenders of Pacific Storm?  It's $3.74.  I seem to recall this being in the "interesting in theory but bad in execution" category of games.  My intuition is telling me to avoid this, even at this give-away price.

I really enjoyed TQ, but I also like Diablo style games.

Yes, Titan quest is ok as a Diablo clone. After 1 and a half diablo's ( never bothered finishing 2, don't remember it if I did) its not much fun.  I do remember it now, top right corner of the final map. Huge horde tries to trap you in the catacoumbs...


If you haven't done Diablo, or if you go as a party with friends TQ is prolly pretty good.

I enjoyed Titan Quest more for the classical setting than anything else.  The ARPG side of things had some decent variety in the skill tree areas, albeit nothing terribly astounding.  I thought the itemization could've used more variety but it was somewhat passable.

Titan Quest is the best Diablo-like I've played.  The setting is fantastic and there's lots of replayability thanks to the mixing of classes.  I recommend it highly.

I wouldn't say it's the best Diablo-like ARPG I've played, regarding mechanics and content, but it's a decent one.  I'm preferring Torchlight 2 right now because it's even more Diablo 2-ish (but with improvements) despite the cartooni-ish textures.   One big difference is that Titan Quest doesn't have any procedural generation of it's zones, so once you've been through somewhere, the monsters and map are all exactly the same.  That always kinda bummed me about it. 

The creators' next one, a Steampunk ARPG named Grim Dawn, does have some randomization like that in it's maps, however, and I've been checking it's progress out on occasion:

They have some Alpha screenshots posted.  Looks like it uses the same engine as TQ did, but I prefer the isometric 3D view to 1st person much more, for a few reasons.

I am really looking forward to Grim Dawn. Been tracking it. Progress has seemed slow though. Probably because I want it badly.

If you are going to get it, get Pacific Storm allies......it is good fun...has strategic game and also an rts adjunct...its worth $3.74

Oh my god, crazy!  That looks like a lot of gaming for £8.  I'm still holding out for Carrier Command but this is really tempting.  Would anyone be kind enough to give me the low down on key points?  For example, viability of single player, linearity of campaign, skirmish modes, etc.?  I'd really appreciate it.

its DOW original too - a lot of gaming i just bought but the Steam servers are having a heart attack - im currently on 52 days and 9 hours to download the package!!!

ahhh, well i still cant help you - im new as well, there was a big post by Jason Pratt i think about which ones to play and which were the best, LB and JH also have a lot ok knowledge, i cant remember which thread Jason mentioned it in, i think it was the one about CA getting the rights to Warhammer

i played 1 a lonnnnng time ago and enjoyed the skirmishes a lot more than the campaign, only because the Space Marines in the campaign were a fictional (what am i saying!!!) chapter - as in not GW lore, although i believe after the games success its incorportated in there somewhere - but i stress this was the only reason, im a GW Geek like that
