He makes a good point.  Then again it is a video game.  If you could just call in a Predator strike on a landed UFO, makes the game too easy.

Though can think of several times an 81mm mortar with WP rounds or that new XM-25 airburst grenade launcher would have been very useful in X-COM.

Chances are the Aliens probably have some toys they didn't use, too.

Hey, in the original game, we used explosives where the fireclouds WERE MADE OUT OF SKULLS!

If those weren't micronukes, they were Chaos weaponry. That's all I'm saying.

....Xcom is supposed to fighting in 2015, but it appears that the aliens have invented a time machine that sent Earth back to the Vietnam War. Xcom troopers begin the game equipped with assault rifles, body armor and hand grenades, which seems more appropriate for Khe Sanh 1968. Granted that Xcom will develop new weapons based on captured alien equipment, but where are the scout micro-drones that are now standard in 2013? What about stun grenades, grenade launchers or night vision gear?

One would hope that in the event of a real alien invasion, Earth would mount a far more credible defense.

I guess I was too wrapped up in the game to notice that.
Regardless of how good a PC game may be it will always have its detractors and no matter how bad a PC game may be it will always have its fans.

In fairness, Xcom is marketed as a general strategy game, not a hardcore HPS wargame. ;)

One would hope in the event of a real invasion the aliens would catch Mike Peck and turn him into a zombie
before he has any more chances of raining on my suspension of disbelief.  I haven't even started it and he
is trying to ruin it for ME!!  What if aliens came here and found we sat around playing games about killing
them?  All day long.  Even children doing it.

The OBVIOUS strategy involves a captured UFO, a ridiculous caricature of a macho pilot and a twitchy nerd who will implant a virus in to the systems of a technologically super advanced race using a Power Mac...

Alien sympathizer! I bet they promised to eat you last!

This is a game correct? I mean, it's not meant as a department of defense simulation of how we would really react to an alien invasion???? Is this guy serious?

Actually, it was a PowerBook 5300. A PowerMac would be a bit bulky to lug around while taking the fight to the Alien... but point taken.  :D
