I wouldn't post that at BGG.  You'll get admonished because it's not featured in a wargame anywhere

Good stuff, Diced. I didn't know that about the pre-WWII usage.

There's a show on one of these cable channels (Military IIRC) that discusses some of the wacky ideas that were tried for early guided bombs during WWII.

One was to use pigeons to home in on ships. Another was to try and use cats' ability to balance to direct them munition. It failed, however, when the cats tended to pass out after the experience of what must have seemed infinite freefall from 10,000+ feet.

The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.

Thanks, Longblade. You just helped me remember my favorite cat weapon story. Article updated.

Mr. Bigglesworth

I seem to remember an ancient siege story of tarred cats with lit tails being thrown into a surrounded city. The cats ran setting fire to a large portion of the city. The siege was soon over when the food storage buildings were destroyed. Ghangis Khan?

QuoteADDITION: I just remembered my favorite cat weapon story: During the Battle of Britain in 1940, when radar was still in its infancy, the British were looking for ways to shoot down German night bombers. Someone sent in the following suggestion:

1. Put cat in cockpit of fighter plane

2. Cat uses night vision to spot German bomber

3. Pilot fires guns in direction where cat is looking at

This needs to be implemented in immediately by 777 studios in their upcoming IL2 reboot in case they or someone else builds a BoB mod for it.
