I've never played any of the previous iterations but this does look interesting.

I will buy it if it's as good as Age of Wonders: Shadow Magic.
Regardless of how good a PC game may be it will always have its detractors and no matter how bad a PC game may be it will always have its fans.

Great news it is! And it's still the same studio as well, not some other vague eastern european studio happening to get the rights on the IP.

I have to say that between this, Fallen Enchantress: Legendary Heroes, and Eador: Master of the Broken World, 2013 has the potential to be a banner year for fantasy 4x games.  If even one of them turns out decent, though, I'll be a happy camper!

I played the original over at a friend's place a few times.  It was good fun. 

I owned AoW2: The Wizard's Throne, and while it wasn't bad, neither was I impressed.  However, I've always heard mostly good things about Shadow Magic (although I never got around to actually getting it for some reason).

Thanks for the post Martok! I played Age of Wonders to death and still have the original on CD-ROM somewhere. Brilliant game and I can't wait to see the new one  :D

The word is out - Triumph's "big partner" in this venture is none other than Notch himself!  He has helped fund it, apparently!
