This is probably a better strategy.  Unless...that's not your bra is it, Gus?

Very interesting news.  I hope we get some news or hints soon on exactly what type of game they are looking at making.

That's the thing that concerns me.  The press release says, "multi-platform" title. While my hopes are very high, I'm still expecting the worst.  There could be a lot that goes wrong.

cant go wrong here =)

Slitherine (www.slitherine.com) and Games Workshop (www.games-workshop.com), two giants in their respective specialist markets, have signed a deal to produce a strategy video game set in the popular Warhammer® 40,000® universe.

"This deal represents yet another testament to our continuous aim to reach new audiences, without losing sight of who we are and what we do best", said JD McNeil, Chairman of the Slitherine Group. "It's all about creating strategy games that are targeted to a particular audience and addressing a very specific need in the market. The Warhammer 40,000 setting is a perfect fit for the style of strategy games that we make and will be very popular with fantasy and science fiction fans alike. Joining forces with Games Workshop will allow us to bring an wonderfully deep and appropriate IP to the Turn Based Strategy genre".

Details of the deal including the content and features of the game have not yet been announced, but development is already underway on multiple platforms, involving the best talents in design and development available to the Slitherine Group.

Jon Gillard, Head of Licensing at Games Workshop said: "Slitherine are clearly established and successful masters of their genre of games, and there are many fans of their work here at GW. It's a pleasure to work with such like minded individuals who share our passion for strategy games of all types".

Well least its turn based, now i liked rites of war.  40k on the panzer corps engine that would be sublime. or something a bit lower scale on the field of glory engine. Tough to guess it could go so many ways. space hulk on the way, the total war guys are doing a fantasy one. i will be doing a bit spending.

Well in fairness to Slitherine, the recent iPad titles (Battle Academy and Legion) are not stripped down.

whilst the credibility of the source could be called into question, over at RPS and Slitherine there is talk that GW will not let it simply be a straight conversion of the board/table top game, i would have thought for the obvious reason that teenagers and gamers are lazy enough - were they to find a n excellent recreation of their favourite game on line you would never get them in a store again

The feel would still be different so the real tabletop geek won't stop playing and painting. Since for so many W40k gamers the painting is part of the fun I doubt it would change anything with such a digital 'recreation'. I love the W40k universe, I think the game is fun but the painting is so time consuming that I don't know when  my Space Wolves will ever get the chance to meet Hiimoris Emperor's Children ;)
