IMHO I think most of the process is BS however Im not the SecNav.
carriers should be named after elements of the Constitution.  assault ships named after Marine battles.  SSN after cities and SSBN after states.  my list goes on but its limited to US conventions.  IMHO the British has the best naming system but those limey bastards own it and we cant copy it.

Jarhead - Yeah. You're probably right.

Gus - I use sweatpants with flannel shorts to soak up my crotch sweat.

Banzai Cat - There is no "partial credit" in grammar. Like anal sex. It's either in, or it's not.

Mirth - We learned long ago that they key isn't to outrun Star, it's to outrun Gus.

Martok - I don't know if it's possible to have an "anti-boner"...but I now have one.

Gus - Celery is vile and has no reason to exist. Like underwear on Star.

I never realized how politicized the naming process was now.

Imagine if your RN career path started out on the HMS Happy Lad, then to the HMS Flamer, HMS Chub, HMS Cockchafer, HMS Cockburn, HMS Cockade, HMS Hospital Ship No. 22, and then you retire on the HMS Barbara!!  :P

I just read one of Patrick O'Brian's novels (The Surgeon's Mate, I think) and he mentioned an HMS Humbug.  Not sure if it's true or not but it wouldn't surprise me.

O'Brian's books are just so good.

I did a quick google for HMS Humbug, it would seem to be a fictitious name.
