Is there anything more annoying than clicking on a game on Steam to play only to be told that it has to update to a more efficient version and will be downloading for the next 3 hours?

I suppose hip-hop music is more annoying...but besides that and the above Steam comment?   >:(

You know what I really need?  A good ole fashioned hex and counter wargame.

For as much as I talk about wargaming, when you get right down to it I just don't have too many turn-based, hex and counter games. 

I have the HPS Civil War series, and I think I have the old Tiller Civil War and Napoleonic games.   And of course I also have War in the Pacific.  What I think I might like is something along the lines of the HPS Squad Battles-type games.  Something with relatively low unit density, not a terrible brain burn, and scenarios that can be finished in an evening.

I'm sitting here looking at my wargame collection, and I'll be darned if I can find a good game to burn 2 or 3 hours on and have a full and complete gaming experience.

A few months ago, I had Shogun 2 do that .. foogeen twice in the same week!  Then it got hung up the second time and wouldn't continue.  So I just deleted the whole install and re-downloaded the monster all over again. 

What a damn mess.

Continuing on with my install saga, I tried to boot up Over Flanders Fields today and it is somehow porked.  So now I'm reinstalling that as well.

What a friggin' pain.  No kidding, I am about to shut off the computer and break out a boardgame.   >:(

So far this weekend, it's been Victoria II on Friday night.  Saturday was solo Warlock and Civ IV MP.  Today, if bob can get up off the mat from his latest frying pan incident, it'll be Warlock MP and prolly some more Civ IV MP.  And I've got an itch to play something else and I'm not sure what.  It'll come to me.

I spent the morning playing Far Cry 3.  Glad I finally worked through the introduction and have gotten into the free roam part of the game.  It's actually quite fun.  I'm working on some hunting right now to build up my pack slots.  And I want to get the bow for some long range silent killing of the bad guys and wild game.
