As I've been reading With Frederick the Great a Story of the Seven Years War (G.A.Henty) as a very light and rather fun introduction to the period (think Sharpe in jackboots  :)  ) I've been playing some Rise of Prussia Gold starting with the Saxony scenario as that is where I'm upto in the book.

Good book actually. Very light and fairly predictable but a good read. There aren't a whole lot of books on the subject unfortunately.

My sprained ankle is prevent me from enjoying the sun like I want to this weekend. Would love to get out shooting or fishing but it ain't going to happen unfortunately. On the bright side that will leave some open time for gaming.

Distant Worlds: Shadows: I went from having no colonies to four. Now I'm having a bit of trouble defending them. I only am able to afford two fleets of about 14 ships a piece and a few loners flying around as escorts. Had to give up a few mining stations to get one empire to like me. Its a little disappointing that my mining stations were there before they colonized a planet, and I have to give them up or they will attack me. Pirates are being a huge pain. One faction has 125 ships and several more have 75+ ships. Not sure how I can compete with that. Combined with the several hostile factions, think I'm in for an interesting time.

Will also be playing some Xenonauts, Birth of Rome, Crusader Kings 2, and Warlock.

will be outside if the weather permits as much as possible, maybe some croquet and ladder golf with the kids followed by family badminton and barbeque. That will have to be after the yard chores are done. PC game wise I  will be finishing Alan Wake, then probably starting F.E.A.R.  and mixing in some CIV 5 gods and kings. Although i'm getting the itch to get back to wargaming.

Worked in a solo game of Great War at Sea: Mediterranean last night using the basic battle rules just to get a familiar with things. Need to re-read the rules again as I think I did a couple things wrong but it was fun. Thinkning about breaking out Flying Colors for a small test game next.

Well I ended up spending my Friday evening installing a bunch of HPS/JTS games that I'd been procrastinating on doing since getting the new rig a few months ago.  Actually I had to dig through a bunch of boxes to find a few discs I thought had been lost a couple of moves ago.  Thank God I found them.  I was starting to worry I'd have to repurchase them.  Anywho all is good except I'm waiting on a couple of reactivation codes from JTS.  Not worried about it though since the JTS crew is great at customer service.  Gearing up to re-enter the PBEM fray.

Had a nice morning of playing some Squad Battles Eagles Strike and JTS support came through just like I knew they would and resolved my issue.

The game is so much better without pirates . I miss the errands and stuff but I don't miss this: killed off all pirates and late game a new pirate group spawns with 50 high tech ships, attacks and can't be bought off...argh . Turn then off

Is this occurring even after you've checked the "pirates do not respawn" box?

Yes it is. They didnt "re spawn" really. It was a brand new pirate faction. Just appeared on the outskirts of my empire. Wouldn't talk to me, was very aggressive and had a huge fleet. Very annoying
