I remember that quest now. When I did my mage play through I mainly used the Staff of Jyrik Gauldurson. I only switched on the few fights where the Staff of Magnus, with the mod that fixes the absord, was somewhat useful.

When I got back to Solitude I tried out Wabba on the town guards. The first one turned into a mudcrab then the next into a deadric prince followed by more crabs. Chaos insued. ;D

OK, so I only went about 102 turns or so as Venice last night. My 50-odd turns today as Indonesia were mainly done while I was at the car dealer getting a recall done to my wife's car.

I figured for $20 it was worth the risk and I believe the sale ends tomorrow. My initial impression is it feels "old". However, it is old and I expected it to feel that way. UI is not as intuitive out of the gate, but I am sure I'll figure it out. Turns can last a long time depending on how many AI units need to move. Kind of a strange thing happens to my desktop after playing the game. The brown colors from the game bleeds into all my other applications where I have to restart to clear up those colors....must be some kind of leak or something.

In the end, I am sure worth it based on what others say and if you have played any other Tiller games, feels similar in most ways...

Sins of a Solar Empire til 1 this morning with my intergalactic sidekick Huw - he seems to have come up with a cunning plan to draw all the AI to him and get battered whilst i mop up in the subsequent empty systems - got to love his dedication

Won my first skirmish against the AI on WG:Airland Battle - it was all about the tanks - AI was on easy and it was 2000 points - im going to ramp it up to 3000 and try again

Actually managed to startup my Black Shark, take off, follow a route, hover, follow my route, hover, popup, drop down, pivot, hover at 5-10ft, fly at speed at NOE, return to base and land. I have played it pretty much exclusively today - a total of about 4 hours.

For some reason in the sim world I find "cheat" starting up to be unacceptable and yet for shutting down, it's cool.

Really starting to enjoy this and getting average at controlling it. And I haven't fired a shot yet.

I don't think the AI uses much airpower or helos until you jack it up to Hard, if any at all. Perhaps they've adjusted that in the last update or two but I don't recall seeing the AI use them on me much until that level. So get comfortable with beating it on normal before going up another notch.

So far for me its mainly been Wargame with some Sins of a Solar Empire Trinity/Rebellion. Gave up on my current Distant Worlds campaign last night. Still have pirates set too high. Was 20+ years in and had already made contact with 15-20 pirate factions. Thought I had turned them down to normal and the level below that. Its not bad when you know only 3-4 factions but after that its just gets to be too much. Not really in the mood to go through the whole pre-warp stage again so I'm gong to shelve the game for a few days before starting a new game.
