There is one thing;

there were significant optimizations made in FSX's performance with its expansion; Acceleration (aptly named). So for that alone I would recommend getting the Gold pack.

I actually installed this base game today and unfortunately the game is constantly crashing on me for some reason.....looks like I will probably have to skip this one.

I guess I should have made that clear, you need the acceleration pack as there are a lot of addons that require it.  I so I assume that would be the Gold version.

@Tuna MP looks straight forward after I looked at it.

Are you running Windows 7?  Get a hold of UIAutomationCore.dll and put it in the main FSX directory.

I am on windows 8, I wonder if this will work with that.  I will give it a shot, thank you!

Question for the experts....I own the basic version of Microsoft Flight Simulator X.  I see there is a deluxe version and gold version (seems to be combo of deluxe version and some acceleration add-on) available.  Is there a way to purchase the add-on material that is available with the gold version alone or would I have to buy the complete gold version to get it?

There is no way to purchase the add-on material separate that I know of.

Ok, thanks....now of course the important question:)  Is the extra stuff you get with the deluxe/gold version worth purchasing versus just using the basic version?  I am not a heavy flight simmer yet, unless this grabs hold of me of course.

The Gold edition includes FS X Deluxe and the Acceleration Expansion Pack. It also gives you 3 additional aircraft and missions, such as carrier operations, and P51-D racing, if you like that sort of thing.

Thank you, jomni. While I am using win 7, I am not using FS, but I will remember your suggestion.

PMDG Triple 7 is out.

I called it- $90 for the base install.  There will be DLC.

I'm going to pass on this one until I figure out the 737 and J41...

I just bought the 777.   ;D

Too bad for Rome II.

PanzersEast

Just cannot bring myself to pay $90 for 1 plane then have to spend more for addons.  There is a whole lot of gaming to be had for $90.  However enjoy and let us know what you think.

Knowing that I will most probably fly than pay other games, it will be worth it.
Will it hold my attention or collect dust in the hangar llike some planes?
My most used to date are A320 and Boeing 737.

I have the wonderful Majestic Dash 8 Q400 but that does not get airtime.  Plus my Carenado GA aircraft.
Time will tell if the 777 becomes a mainstay.

That 777 might have to be more of a Christmas present or something.  Maybe a gift to myself as a reward if I get picked up for some of the programs I'm applying to.  I just don't think I can justify that kind of money on an add-on to FSX right now.

I'm not saying it's an unreasonable price; in fact it's probably very fair.  It's definitely and outlier, though, and it's not a trivial purchase for sure.

Let us know how it flies, though!

Finally logged a flight in the PMDG 737.  Man, that is a tough airplane to figure out.  It's all about the autopilot and computer system.  I handflew it into a landing at Nashville Intl no problem; the thing handles like a dream, but man alive does that FMC baffle me!

Definitely going to need to spend some time with a tutorial or two.
