It released into early access about 2 weeks ago. It's nice, but has a long road ahead.

To be fair most of the negative reviews are either people a) airing unrelated political grievances about Razbam or b) asserting that they know the Chinook flight model better than the Chinook pilots that ED brings in to consult. I know I sound like a shill, I'm just get really tired of how angry and entitled internet people are.

As I get older I keep... excuse me, I need to go yell at a cloud.

I think a lot of people are also disappointed about what some consider the very early state of the module, as well as a lot of its missing features as a result. For me, I just like flying around and navigating in these things so I'm happy to have it now in its present state.

Same here. I don't know, people seem to expect Early Access to be a completely finished product these days. No one's forcing you to buy it in EA.

How do I fire dumb rockets from the F-14 Tomcat?

It has been a long time, but I used to just use Jester to select the rockets. From there, each pull of the trigger would release a single rocket. You can also ask him to configure for pairs, or any ripple quantity up to 30.

It has been a long time since I've done any ground pounding in a Tomcat though, so this may have changed.

Iraq map (and separate it seems northern iraq map) for pre-order. I'd rather Vietnam, but hey. Iraq would have been a great first map to do in the middle east.

Edit:
Ok looks like you can purchase the iraq map in two parts, north and south or the whole map at once. Purchasing only one of the halves gives you the other half in low resolution. They must be finding people cannot afford the full map price point but want enough peolple to be able to participate on mp servers. I found that mainly the  free base game map and O think the gulf were basically all you found on servers because the others most did not own so could not join. So makes sense.

Yeah, the whole map thing needs to be redone.  People really don't care about the maps, they want aircraft.  I think DCS should do the whole world at low resolution like it looks on the default terrain and offer that free.  If your money bags or a spare no expense enthusiast, then you can buy the high res terrain for eye candy, this is how it's done in MSFS2020.  The paywall maps are just splintering MP, and really only servers with Georgia or syria are populated.

Syria is better than the Gulf as a DCS map. So that makes sense. Looks like the Gulf map has been superceded as the 2nd most popular server map.
I kinda agree that they just need to do the whole world, but at the same time I think they are aiming for high fidelity maps which may not be feasable with a combat flight simulator with thier tech level. I don't mind buying maps and maps are something I really love about DCS.

I think they should just allow all maps in low resolution for everybody and sell the high res stuff to the moneybags or enthusiasts. They are already half way down this path. It comes down to making people pay for your hard work. People don't value maps enough imho. For me terrain is where a lot of games flat out fail, terrain is 80% of what you look at, scourge of war, looking at you!

Woah. I would have bet a cookie that we would never see details about that dustup.

I've glanced at those reddits, it'll make you salty about dcs.  Interesting to see jar's take on the matter with his law background.

Yes, i just need the time to really sift through it.

What I can say, off the cuff, is that the author of the post seems to make a big deal about ED's purported effort to withhold payments due as an offset for damages even though the alleged balance due to Razbam is less than the purported damages claimed by ED. This doesn't strike me as unusual in the least. In fact, I'd say it is more often the rule in commercial disputes rather than the exception. Where a party is in a position to exert that kind of leverage in litigation, it would typically be inadvisable to issue a payment. That would fill the adversary's war chest and make carrying on the litigation less painful. Even where the contract expressly prohibits offsets, it is still the norm to withhold payments where there are competing claims for damages.

What I can say is that it is disheartening to read that the dispute may have caused the relationship to become very venomous and acrimonious and that both sides may be pursuing a scorched-earth approach. If true, this makes it far less likely that the relationship will ever be rehabilitated and return to its pre-dispute course of business. As such, I am weary over the prospects of continuing support and enhancement of the Razbam modules. This would represent a tremendous loss for the community at large, regardless of who the prevailing party in the dispute proves to be.

What makes me really sad is that a lot of the community around DCS has gotten so toxic, so venomous, over this and other stuff that's caused the community to hyperventilate (e.g. selling the Afghanistan map in parts! Oh the horror!) For all the warts that ED may actually or at least from a public perception standpoint have, I can't help but think that DCS is the game we all imagined we were playing as we squinted at 320x240 CGA flight sims in the 80s on our $3000 rigs of the time. There's still a tremendous simulation and game here. I have for this reason pretty much checked out of the online DCS community and just... play the game. And have a blast doing it, generally. I know, weird, right?

That's a shame as I found the community to be a nice mix way back.
