I don't remember having too much difficulty flying or fighting the albatross DVa but I do remember that I could not fly the camel without going into a death spin

The DVa is definitely the easiest to handle.  Although it still has that huge steady upward pitch that all aircraft in ROF has so keeping adjusting your rate of turn, in a bank, can still be a pain in the ass since your stick passes between push & pull so much (as I mentioned).

As for going into spins, all the rotary aircraft like the Camel are prone to doing that.  It doesn't bother me so much since the odd torque on those things looks to be appropriate.  You also have to push the nose downward and apply lots of rudder before turning to the right or they will completely stop your turn.  The instability and general moodiness of the rotary-engined ones takes some getting used to, but it's appropriate as far as I can tell. 

I just take issue with all the aircraft requiring you to constantly push so far forward on the stick just to hold level flight, in ROF.  Far too exaggerated I would think.

As I have been browsing the game forum, I learned something I wasn't aware of, not sure if others were too.  We all know you must own a copy of cfs to play the game, nothing new there.  However, I learned there are two versions of the game, one that comes on DVD and one that comes on cd.  If you buy the cd version, you need to install cfs on your system and when you play the game the cd must be in the drive.  If you have the DVD version, you don't have to install it and you don't have to keep it in the drive to play the game.  During the install process you just have to put the cfs DVD in so it can copy a few files but after that no longer needed.

So it seems like if your going to buy cfs, best to look for the DVD version, even though it may cost a couple of dollars more.  Amazon seems to have copies for around $10.

This all assumes the new version installs like the old version.

Cool thanks for posting that...I don't remember which version I have...I think it is the DVD version.

What I am looking for at release is related to what others have posted...I want to see other people's graphics settings. Because after spending a nice chunk on the original OFF I was ultimately disappointed in how it looked...but I wonder if it was because I was doing something wrong...

Sorry to take this OT, but if you shift your pitch curve down (or buy a FFB stick) this issue goes away

I did start adjusting all my pitch centerings down.  It took ~26% or more adjustment on many of them!  That's just ridiculous.  It also results in a loss of fine control due to the curve becoming steeper due to the change.  I had to use a middling adjustment so the sensitivity wouldn't ramp up to much over the whole spread.   I wasn't happy with this workaround, although it helped a bit. 

Seriously.. having to constantly push over one quarter of it's range forward on your joystick in order to somewhat hold your altitude is just insane.  It may be the only thing I complain about in ROF but it definitely makes me scratch my head and wonder, "what the f---?".   From the few pilot accounts I've seen, they generally had to jockey the stick all around by small bits to maintain level flight - not constantly push the stick foward 1/4 of the way to fight a constant looping tendency.   ???

I suspect WOFF/OFF probably portrays this at more sensible levels, like all the other flight sims out there.  ROF is the only one I've seen go nuts on it's level-flying flight model like this.

WOFF was just released today. 

I went ahead an purchased.  Gotta wait a few minutes for the email with the download in it, however. 

There is also a release day patch (v1.1) on their site.  Hopefully that doesn't bode any extra craziness.  Hasn't this been in the works for over 3 years?

EDIT: d/l'ing now.  It's 4.4GB in size and the d/l speed is a bit jumpy at times.

Yes, I will post my settings and some screenshots when I get it up & running.  I still have to install CFS3 and TrackIR on this new computer and tweak the latter (I forgot to back up my TrackIR settings from the old machine).  So it may be awhile before it's all ready to go later.
