Fanboying -- I may or may not be doing it wrong. 

(I'll grant that TDKR was substantially a more annoying movie, though.  ;) G2014's similar ending even makes very slightly more sense.  :D )

I really do hope other people liked it a lot more than I did. I fully agree there's enough quality to step (though wobbly) into a better film and franchise next time. I want a modern Godzilla film series to succeed and make godly amounts of money for everyone involved.

I saw it in 3D and got souvenir glasses! 3D was unnesessary, but the glasses are cool!  8)

3D seems to be very "over" in my neck of the woods. The little dinky theater between me and the Big City Theaters had AmazingSpider2 in 3D, but none of the BCTs did. No Godzilla options in 3D. No Noah options in 3D. Not entirely sure there were any Winter Solider options in 3D. (We didn't watch it that way anyway.)

Granted, I have a lot of trouble watching a film in 3D, so I wouldn't have done so anyway -- though on a big colorful movie (like animated features -- no Frozen 3D around here either) I seem to do okay. I might have tried Spider2 in 3D given an option (I learned about it at the local aftermarket theater too late, already saw it, couldn't muster enough caring to watch again). Too much grey in Godzilla.

Oh well. Just weird. I hope 3D stays around long enough this time for the tech to be continually improved; I'm not at all against it in principle. It adds several more layers of artistic skill (on every shot of a movie) to work consistently right, though.

Does 3D work better with IMAX and related setups? I suspect so, but we have no IMAX theaters around here (closest one is 2+ HOURS away).

Speaking of IMAX and alternative presentation setups:

1.) How many saw G2014 at a 'normal' theater (or normal digital theater, that may be the normal now anyway)? I did.

2.) In my theater, I thought at first someone had forgotten to turn on more than just the front speakers (or wiring had failed, whatever) -- especially notable since I was sitting under one of the side speakers. So the sound was very disconnected, way up there in front of me. But then every once in a rare while the side and back speakers would twerp an environmental effect. So I know they weren't off, but... would an equipment problem cause that? Or was the film designed to be presented that way?

That's my actual question, did anyone else have that experience? If several people did across a wide distribution (and especially if it even happened in venues with extra-sound like in IMAX), that would be evidence of intentional sound design.

I just returned from seeing the movie.  I saw it in a normal theater with no 3D but the sound quality was good.  All speakers seemed functional in the AMC theater I saw the movie in. 

I noticed that there were quite a few tidbits to consider in the opening credits as well.  I will have to see this movie again next weekend and pay closer attention.  I like how for a brief moment the text describing each image was shown and then key sentences were 'whited out' for security reasons.   O0

Overall, as a strict Toho fan, I think this movie was well made.  Both the story and the character development were well done.  This version of Gojira is no classic Kaiju fest but the story and the monsters are believable.  I was pleased. 

My only complaint was that the monster fight sequences were too short time wise.  I seem to recall the fights being much longer at least 5-8 minutes in the old movies like 'Destroy all Monsters'.  What is impressive about this movie is the monster fighting style.  One gets a sense that these creatures fighting each other are not men in rubber suits but actual beasts of nature using very realistic animal fighting styles.  There was a lot of biting and poking going on much like a lion trying to take gown a horned deer.  It was truly barbaric and that made the fights totally believable.

Okay, good, that's evidence my theater sound was a glitch.

You can read the whited-out parts at the link above, W8; though freeze-framing the credit sequence might have interesting visual results, too. If I go see it again in the theater I'll try filming it with a camera (but by then it'll probably be officially online. ;) )

I'm willing to grant that overall the movie had far more kaiju action than, say, Destroy All Monsters which is much lighter than people remember (probably due to cost issues involved in multiple distinct sets and all the suits). Even with the constant distancing and action-fakeouts, the film keeps its focus on the Muto plot admirably consistent and there's a ton of nice sfx. I agree about the character development, too (except for Dr. Serizawa but I understand why his character wouldn't develop). I went in unsure how much of the human side would be dull based on other reviews, but it was acceptable enough.

Nice point about the animal-fighting styles, too; and they did that while converting over several typical G-moves (without insane things like the dropkick from GvsMegalon. ;) )

Maybe in a year or two I'll have a higher opinion about the various things that kept constantly annoying me -- I rewatched the first Amazing Spider-man movie twice this weekend and thought much more highly of it (while still cringing at various plot designs).

I noticed that too Jason about Dr. Serizawa.  In Gojira 1954 he was of course a very important character and I think I understand why he wasn't as important in this movie.  Still though, in a way I was glad that this American version of Godzilla paid homage to Dr. Serizawa.  He was very critical in the original monsters demise with his oxygen destroyer.  But that would not have fit in well with the story told in this new Godzilla movie.

all I can say is that I really enjoyed that movie!  as reboots go it's 100% gooderest.
