You'll be just fine picking only one or two countries.  You'll still be able to recruit players from elsewhere.  No worries!

One thing I certainly didn't want to happen is having too much being simmed every day, the database getting overly bloated to no extra immediate effect I will ever see, and the daily simming taking a long time.  I'd rather the game just vaguely track the bajillion leagues I don't bother paying attention to in the most basic way, along with the players in them.  They're still there but when you only advance the game by a day at a time, it certainly pays to have it run as smoothly as possible.

Back when I first started playing with CM 00/01 I would throw in everything and it would take forever to sim a day. Now, especially since I normally play lower league sides, I will probably only put a couple of countries in.

And to be clear, is the only reason to put multiple countries in is if you ever want to coach in them?  if you never want to coach in them, is there any other benefits if having the additional countries?

I need to look at the manual to see how the country selection works these days. At one point they had different levels of selection, where if it was a country you planned on managing in it would be set to one level, and if it was just a country you wanted more detailed simming in, then it would be the other level. I was thinking that with countries not selected it would still quick sim the domestic competitions, but I'm not sure it is doing that.

For some fun reading about Football Manager I ran across this earlier this year on the kindle Football Manager Stole my Life.

A wonderful start to the new season. My starting goalkeeper is nothing to write home about, but he pulled a hamstring right before the start of the season, so the campaign began with his backup in the box. Not pretty. We did manage to win our 3rd game though, so we are sitting mid table with 3 points at 1-0-2.

That's pretty cool about the book:)  Just curious, is there any "strategy" guide books out there for the game?  Maybe that is the type of book I need that someone might explain all this stuff to me.

I checked the manual for setup options and sadly not very detailed.  There are multiple options such as playable versus viewable, just doesn't go into a lot of detail of all the pros and cons.  Wish there was a detailed guide somewhere that really explained that stuff in detail.

Is saw that Cougar gave you (and me) something to think about concerning database size.  In all my years of playing FM this is the first time I've seen an argument for a smaller database.  Good luck to you and continue to keep us posted.

Fmscout website has a free strategy guide when you make an account there. Its based on one of the earlier releases and promises to get a new one out havent been kept for two years now, BUT that guide is still pretty thorough and indepth!

Spent all night downloading the player pictures, woke up and the darn thing was corrupted....gosh darn it!  Try it again tonight:(  Eating up my bandwidth:)

Mine didn't work either  :(.

I tried again last night, even with a different browser, same result...corrupted file.....looks like I am going to have to give up on this file for now....never had issues like this before so not sure what is going on.  It says it downloaded the full 6gb, but then it only turns out to be 300mb, which is corrupted.

The other guide site I posted too also said the same thing.  It said using a smaller database gives you a more of a challenge since all the teams will have a smaller pool to get talented players so seems to backup his statement.  That other site really does a great job in explaining all the setup options and their impacts such as choosing your favorite team, nationality, etc.

Since I am not a Football expert in understanding the real life team and leagues, is there a site that lists all the leagues around the world and also defines which of the leagues are considered the top/premiere league within that nation?  Trying to see what level of sub league I want to play down to and not sure which league in each country is considered the "top" league, unless the top league is always listed first in the selection options.  Thanks.

I might look around a bit today and see if I can find a different facepack.  I know there are a lot of smaller ones that cover specific teams, countries, or leagues so I may give some of those a go.

That's a list of the top clubs in Europe.  Every year teams qualify based on their position in their respective leagues.  The more respected a league is the more teams it sends to the Champions League.  This link will take you to a list of member countries.  Clicking on each country will show you that country's top league and the current standings. http://www.uefa.com/memberassociations/index.htm

Thanks for the links, that should help.....I am probably going to hold out for the big mega pack of pictures, hoping they can correct whatever server issues they are having.  I am only trying to download it the FREE way, while other people paid for the Premiere membership and they can't even download...feel bad for those folks who bought that membership just to get it.

Looks like their support team is now looking into the download issue, hopefully will be resolved today.  Here is the message.

Hey guys I am looking into this, just made a change and am testing it now, anyone reading this who has had a SUCCESSFUL download please post, as far as i'm concerned it's not working for anyone right now and it would be useful to know if it is infact working for some people.

If you are still having problems, please don't continue to post in here, I am aware of the problem and will post an announcement in the next few hours when I believe the problem has been fixed
