Civ V - Stalemate

They were a nice change of pace but it revealed to me my deep-seeded hatred of a sprawling empire across several continents or island chains. I prefer my empire to be interconnected and on one land mass.

^Me too. With plenty of lesser states around to pummel into nothingness.

I enjoy the early game tremendously, making discoveries and revealing the map.

you might try the Conquest of the New World scenario for an exploration-heavy adventure.  Play as one of the European powers, not the natives.

Not as much of an exploration game that way.  Not a bad game, mind you, just more of a tower defense scenario for them than an exploratory one.

Sounds good. Civ V, to me anyway, is pretty close to a perfect game. It just needs some work on the end game to make it more interesting and perhaps some more historical variation for the civs.

I hear ya' on the end-game.  I'm playing the Shoshone right now in one, and it's been a foregone conclusion for about 20-25 turns that I'm going to win.  It's just a matter of whether or not I feel like trying to conquer the Songhai before I wrap up a spaceship.

The Shoshone are obnoxious with that huge claim of land they get for each city the found.

Right now as the Russians it's a big cluster____. Chaotic mess with every power declaring war on everyone else.
