No different than using airstrikes to terrorize and kill civilians.

I'm no fan of Islamic extremism either.
The Russians brought this on themselves though and the Chechens fight with what they have.
The Russian occupation of Chechnya has been very brutal and while I don't condone the Chechen methods of defending themselves I understand why they do it.

They can't possibly hope to win a conventional war against Russia and I think that these bombings are attempts to create world attention to the suffering that the Chechen people(civilians) have endured under Russian occupation.

It's a complex situation. I find it hard to have sympathy for either side based on the tactics they have used  - or are currently using. The Russians have certainly done their share in attacking civilian areas and the rebels lost any inkling of support  I may have had for them when they slaughtered the school children in Beslan. It's bad all the way around.
