Not only is it getting good reviews, it won several of our categories in the annual Readers Choice Awards for 2013

Have and recommend it.  Waiting to see what they do with the Pacific.

I'm not quite as enamored of The Hunters as everyone else.

It's fun for a short stretch but not as detailed as I had hoped, in a couple areas.  That tends to make it feel rather repetitive for me.  As a result, I can only play in short spurts before packing it back up.  Luckily it is fairly easy to resume where you left off when you break it back out.  It's not a bad game but I wanted more detail in the convoy attack part.

After seeing the way convoys are set up in Silent War (much of which is initially hidden from view), I had hoped for something similarly detailed in this one.  Instead, you just end up deciding how many torpedoes to shoot at each of a handful and the option of a few DRMs.  Most notably missing is the unpredictability of the Escorts in your attack decisions.

I'm surprised to see this thread has gone 10 pages and so little has been said about Solitaire ASL. In addition to being a clever solitaire system, it also addresses the lack of command/control restrictions in the ASLRB. In other words, it actually makes ASL a little more realistic in addition to providing a fun solitaire experience.

I can't afford to be an ASL junky.  That's a whole new level of expenditure.  :o

Also.. got sick of gaming the WW2 setting awhile back.  Overload.

Debating picking up the new version of Blackbeard.  It looks noticeably improved over the old 90s one.

I didn't realize it has solitaire rules, and it looks like the game isn't terribly expensive in comparison to many others.

Has one of you played the newer one?

How did Blackbeard play out?

Dunno.

I got The Sword of Rome at the same time.  Been figuring that one out.  I haven't been spending as much time on tabletops lately since I've got back into some of the classical wargames on the computer (Great Battles and HPS Ancient Warfare).  But having a grand strategy game out on the table at the same time compliments my current flavor.  It is very much a multiplayer game, however, since it uses similar card mechanics as Labyrinth and the others, except this one is best for 3-5 players so the dealing & backstabbery is encouraged.  I can still come up with some card draw modifications to make it somewhat soloable, but wanna learn in case I can sucker a group into it sometime or maybe for Vassal.

I also plan to finally pick up C&C Ancients sometime soon, too.  The improvised solo rules that some people use sound like they could be fun & very easy to implement for when the mood strikes and no opponent at hand.

Anyway.. I'm not sure when I'll be in Pirate Mode.  I like the general look of the Blackbeard components.  From the little I browsed on the new solitaire rules, you just play as Blackbeard.  I think that may be the prime reason the solo game is kinda "meh" since there are so many other historical pirates available to play in the game, but you are stuck with the one for the official solo game.  I'm sure there are user-created solo variants that are closer to the full the game out there, so I'll probably dig them up eventually.

And what's this that Ricky just started playing?

Arctic Blast

I've been considering buying that as well. Looks like the D&D Adventure games with more enhanced AI options and a sci-fi setting. Definitely something I'm interested in...but I just bought Level 7 : Omega Protocol. It can't be soloed, but goddamn is it good and in a very similar vein.

Decisions, decisions...

Isn't the first Level 7 game solo-able?   (Level 7: Escape IIRC)

Then again, I've only read that the Omega Protocol version is the better system.

Not too sure about the first Level 7. I picked up OP because the reviews were calling it a real Space Hulk style game. And it is. In fact, it's probably better. Lots of need tactics going on for the Marine and Overlord players.

Of course, I likely will be grabbing Galaxy Defenders when I next put in a game order...which might be tomorrow.  ;D

Arctic Blast

And Galaxy Defenders has, in fact, been ordered. Thoughts to follow once it shows up.  ::) ;D

How much did that beast cost?

I was drooling over pics of that new age of sail minis game from Ares , but doesn't that thing cost about $140?  :o
