My young pilot and his squadron were given a rail junction attack mission during the 3rd Ypres offensive, just after receiving his 9th confirmed kill.  After dropping our Cooper bombs, we began strafing rail cars and buildings.  Turning into my second strafing run, I'm struck by what is obviously a lot of shrapnel from an Archie burst.  I'm seriously wounded and, worse, my fuel is leaking so bad the tank runs out in about six seconds.

Being so low to the ground, I'm thinking I may still end up alive despite being a guest of the Germans.  The ground and my low airspeed held a different opinion.

This was the first time I had actually been hit so catastrophically by an Archie burst!   :)  I was always far more concerned about the ground-based machinegun fire down there.

Took a hard bounce and flipped on touchdown.

Not... gonna... make.. it..

Damn you Tuna! Now I'm going to have to reinstall FSX and buy that fine, fine aircraft. Does it come in red or yellow? WW2 era civil Air Patrol livery?

Some sneaky Hun ended up following me back to my aerodrome at a distance.

The Merge.  Can you find the Albatros?

Goodbye Doctor Jones!

After downing that bushwhacker, I attempted to land.  But a flight of five or six more Albatros DIIIs show up headed straight for my aerodrome, obviously on a mission to strafe the place and be a general nuisance.  I'm lucky in that some other returning SPADs draw much of their attention and I manage to send another packing with a damaged engine; that AI pilot did his best to make it back across his lines while one of his buddies came after me.  I suppose he was doing so to keep me from killing his wounded brother.

I managed to turn on this new one, damage his engine, and get on his six while he also started to run.  Not from my faster SPAD VII!  Muahahha!  Prepare to die!

Dammit.  Out of Ammo.

Cherish this day, Fritzy, you lucky bastid.

My home aerodrome was still being attacked by at least three more Albies when I tried to return to land.  So I diverted to another nearby 'drome but one of the German Aces was on my tail the whole way.  The only thing that finally dissuaded him was my low level flight right over this other aerodrome where the French machinegun and flak fire from the ground sent him packing.  I thought I'd never land without being strafed on the ground!  :D

Some more flying with Escadrille 3 in 1917.

Georges Guynemer is my flight leader in these first couple shots, one of the most accomplished aces of the war.   I wanted to get close enough to his SPAD to see if he had "Vieux Charles" painted on this one, too, as he reportedly had on the side of  most of his planes.  But I didn't wanna disrupt formation.  :P

Got reacquainted with DCS FC3 yesterday.

Sorry.. forgot to turn off the Info Bar.
I'm also unsure of what the playback FF/REW controls are during track playback so I'm still re-learning some of the hotkeys.
