Some footage would be nice.

I am sure the guys on the Coast Guard ship are excited about actually getting to sink something. ;D

That is exactly what I was thinking!  :)

Hopefully, there will be some good footage !

Actually, odd as it sounds, I feel sorry that they are going to sink it. I know why they are going to do so
but it's still a little bit sad. It's a ship and it did what ships are supposed to do despite great odds.

The darn thing survived a year at sea without a crew and crossed the largest body of water in the world .
It's sort of like a dog or horse crossing a hostile continent alone after losing it's owner and almost arriving
at a safe place just to be euthanized by overly cautious animal control officers.

An odd reaction I know but that's how I feel. :(

Well then we're both odd, because I had the same reaction.  I realize it's necessary, but it's still sad.

I wasn't emotionally affected, but I did note the irony.

Hey LB!  I was just starting to wonder if you were still breathing.

I still find it a little tragic.  Call me a sentimental fool, I guess.

Mr. Bigglesworth

Why didn't they pump out the fuel oil before sinking it?

According to the media reports it was a "slight amount of fuel" that would quickly evaporate and pose no threat to the environment. In reality who the hell knows ! Maybe they were hoping for a big BOOM!
