I'm still at Season 3, very good so far.  I was work travelling too much up until last year, so didn't have time to hit the series then.  I never got into much fantasy book reading beyond Tolkien when I was younger (I was more sci-fi).  Probably a good time to pick up Martin's first book and give it a go to see how the series compares.

By far Tyrion played by Peter Dinklage is my favorite character (definitely has the best lines).  Lord Varys and Tywin Lannister close seconds.  I couldn't care less for anyone from the Iron Islands though - what a miserable place and people.

I still think Jon Snow is integral to the story.  So, I will not be convinced until the evidence is overwhelming to the max!  And no, five versions of, "For the Watch," are not enough evidence.

Wait until you see Tyrion in court.  Emmy worthy performances... and he won!  2nd time he won for Game of Thrones.

The TV series is a hell of a lot better than the books, that's for damn sure.

I completely agree.  While the story is good, the actual writing is horrible.  Martin is technically competent but ridiculously verbose to the point of insanity.  Also why I don't rate Tolkien.  Oh and the endless lists!  The books are a long, hard slog, far too steeped in olde worlde nonsense, and a difficult read as opposed to enjoyable.  I'm utterly content to get the rest of the story from the TV series thank you very much.
